For all its faults — and there are many of late — the Federal Bureau of Investigation remains diligent in pursuing a potential bombing suspect from the 1970s.
The FBI just released an enhanced photograph aging Leo F. Burt, who is one of the suspects in the anti-Vietnam War bombing at the University of Wisconsin, which was considered the largest act of domestic terrorism at the time.
The question is: where did he go?
More from The New York Times:
In the more than 50 years since a bomb ripped through a mathematics center at the University of Wisconsin, killing a graduate student and injuring several others in what was considered an attack protesting the Vietnam War, the F.B.I. has received hundreds of tips about the whereabouts of one of the suspects, Leo F. Burt.
Just weeks after the attack on Aug. 24, 1970, a waitress in Cleveland was convinced that she had seen him. Years later, another tipster thought he had spotted Mr. Burt at a homeless shelter in Denver. One man said he had seen the fugitive working at a resort in Costa Rica. But Mr. Burt was never found.
A new “Wanted” poster released last week includes new images of what Burt might look like today, aged to around 75 years old.
“Leo Frederick Burt is wanted for allegedly participating in the bombing of Sterling Hall, on the campus of the University of Wisconsin, on August 24, 1970,” said a description on the poster. “The blast from the explosion, combined with the fire, resulted in the death of a 33-year-old researcher. Additionally, there were several injuries reported and an estimated $6 million damage to the building and its contents.”
“Reportedly, explosives had been placed in a stolen panel truck, located three blocks from the building, just several days before the blast. Also, a light-colored, late-model vehicle (Corvair) was seen leaving the vicinity of the bombing, and Burt was identified as being in the car,” the bureau continued.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest of Leo Frederick Burt.
The bureau advises anyone with information concerning this person to contact their local FBI office or the nearest American Embassy or Consulate. Anonymous tips can be submitted HERE.
