Sen. John Fetterman took to mocking fellow Democrat Rep. Rashida Tlaib on Friday over her fears of a second Trump administration.
But he didn’t mock her because he supports a second Trump administration. It’s a little more complicated than that.
Recently the congresswoman voted “uncommitted” in Michigan’s Democrat primary election to voice her displeasure over President Biden’s support of Israel.
“I was proud today to walk in and pull a Democratic ballot and vote uncommitted,” she said afterward in a video published to the social media platform X.
“We must protect our democracy, we must make sure that our government is about us, about the people. When 74% of Democrats in Michigan support a ceasefire yet President Biden is not hearing us, this is the way we can use our democracy to say listen,” she added.

Then on Thursday, Tlaib issued a statement in which she encouraged people to vote in the upcoming general election but refused to explicitly endorse Biden, according to Politico.
“Don’t stay home,” she said. “One thing that I know about staying home is you’re making us more invisible. I want you to exercise your right to vote.”
“Everybody’s always driven by what’s on top of the ballot. Know that there’s so many other folks on that ballot, many of which support a cease-fire [in the Gaza Strip],” she added.
Yet that very same day, HuffPost published a story pointing out how “incredibly scared” Tlaib is of a second term for former President Donald Trump.
“It’s really important for folks to understand: I am incredibly, incredibly scared of a second term for Trump. And I think it’s really important to emphasize this,” she said.
This dichotomy between Tlaib telling people to not vote for Biden but then fretting over another Trump term was too much for Fetterman.
See how he responded below:

As seen above, he posted a “Simpsons”-based meme mocking Tlaib. Ironically, some on the right misinterpreted the meme, thinking Fetterman was mocking Tlaib for just being afraid of a Trump administration.
In other words, some on the right falsely misinterpreted the meme as a tacit endorsement of Trump.
To these folks, Fetterman’s tweet was just the greatest thing ever.

I mean how can ya not like this guy

Damn it. I like Fetterman. This wasn’t supposed to happen.

In an additional tweet posted four hours later, Fetterman clarified his take.
“Trump is committed. In 2024, if you’re not committed to Biden-by default- you’re committing for Trump,” he wrote, taking a direct hit at Tlaib over her “uncommitted” vote.
By then it was already too late, in that many leftists had also misinterpreted his original tweet and taken to slamming him for ostensibly acting like a Republican.
Look:
You are a republican

She’s braver than you’ll ever be hoodie Republican

Ok well you’ve thrown out your entire platform and became a republican so… mind your business.

If you declared yourself a Republican, you would be further Right than half the Republican Senate.

You have become indistinguishable from a Republican. So disappointed I wasted precious hours of my life working to get you elected.

But make no mistake: Despite Fetterman’s recent overtures to the right and his staunch support for Israel, he’s still a raging Democrat.
In fact, it was only a week or so ago when he accused Democrats like Tlaib of basically being part of the “MAGA” movement as per their criticisms of dear leader Biden.
“I don’t understand why [they’re criticizing him,” he said during an MSNBC appearance. “I don’t know what’s in it for you to do that, whether you’re just chasing clout or you want to make it in the news or anything like that.”
“But if you’re not willing to just support the president now and say these kinds of things, you might as well just get your MAGA hat, because you now are helping Trump with this,” he added.

Sound advice, actually. Go get yourself a a MAGA hat and join the fight to save America.pic.twitter.com/66NzpmFEQw
