Florida lawmaker files bill to ‘cancel’ Dems for past support of slavery

In a wonderful bit of political trolling, a Florida GOP lawmaker has filed a bill that would effectively “cancel” Sunshine State Democrats for the party’s past support of slavery, an abominably cruel racist practice that they were for before they were against it.

On Tuesday, Florida Sen. Blaise Ingoglia of Spring Hill introduced SB 1248, tabbed “The Ultimate Cancel Act” which would require the state’s Division of Election to  “immediately cancel the filings” of political parties that have endorsed slavery in their official platforms, something which he said that the Democratic Party did during the Civil War era before it was abolished by the iconic Republican President Abraham Lincoln.

“For years now, leftist activists have been trying to cancel people and companies for things they have said or done in the past,” Sen. Ingoglia said in a statement. “This includes the removal of statues and memorials and the renaming of buildings. Using this standard, it would be hypocritical not to cancel the Democrat Party itself for the same reason.”

In a press release from Ingoglia, he said that the Democrats had adopted positions in favor of slavery as a part of their platform during the conventions of 1840, 1844, 1856, 1860, and 1864, an era when the party bosses were whistling a far different tune than they are today, another reminder that racism has ALWAYS been a core tenet of the Democratic Party.

“Some people want to have ‘uncomfortable conversations’ about certain subjects. Let’s have those conversations,” Ingoglia said.

Predictably, Democrats weren’t pleased with having the tables turned on them using their own tactics.

While Ingoglia’s bill has Democrats and their media toadies sputtering with rage, the sad reality is that the Florida Democratic Party has done a good enough job of canceling itself as a result of its championing of authoritarian COVID measures such as lockdowns, mask and vaccine mandates as well as its defense of a “woke” cultural agenda that promotes anti-white racist ideology in the form of Critical Race Theory and makes excuses for perverts and groomers preying on vulnerable children in classrooms, deal killers with voters who have busted the left-wing party back to zero in recent elections.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who has rolled back the left’s war on America in his state and was rewarded by voters who reelected him with a 20-point pulverizing of hapless Democrat opponent, former GOP governor and party jumper Charlie Crist, dismissed Florida Democrats as an extinct species, going so far as to liken them to the carcass of a dead animal.

“We’ve shown a knack for identifying the left when they’re totally off their rocker, isolating those examples and really protecting Floridians from the left’s worst pathologies. People don’t have to be Republicans to appreciate that,” DeSantis said during an appearance on “The Josh Hammer Show” where he was promoting his new memoir as well as touting his recipe for success in Florida as a “model” for the nation.

The Florida Democratic party is “basically a dead, rotten carcass on the side of the road,” he told the Newsweek opinion editor, taking pleasure in the voters’ rejection of having the party’s vile agenda forced down their throats in the Sunshine State as it is elsewhere.

Florida Democrats have much more to worry about than Ingoglia’s “The Ultimate Cancel Act” after they turned to DeSantis critic and former weed lobbyist Nikki Fried to chart their course back to political relevance, electing the ex-state agriculture commissioner to head up their party over the weekend.

To some, the choice of Fried is a real head-scratcher, especially considering that she was so unpopular that she couldn’t even best the feckless Crist in last year’s Democrat gubernatorial primary.

“Shame on the radical Republican party for initiating some type of a piece of legislation of this magnitude,” spat the party’s glorious new leader. “This is what a dictator does. This is what a fascist does.”
