Former cop mom arrested after allegedly dunking 6-year-old boy

More information is coming out about the woman accused of holding a 6-year-old boy underwater in Florida.

According to authorities, it all started on December 19, when three children were playing in the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center pool, in Kissimmee. The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office claims that 36-year-old Tiffany Lee Griffith entered the pool and allegedly accosted a young boy who dunked her son underwater. After yelling at the boy, the mother took things a step further.

“The suspect then placed her hands on the victim’s shoulders and forcibly dunked him underwater for several seconds,” the authorities said. The child then fled to his parents, who noted that he had a nosebleed, to tell them about the incident. Griffith then reportedly yelled at the 6-year-old’s mother before leaving the area.

She was located by police and arrested on charges of aggravated child abuse, but it’s her history with law enforcement that is perhaps most surprising.

According to reports, Griffith identified herself as a former law enforcement officer, and this was seemingly confirmed to WPBF 25 News by the Punta Gorda Police Department.

“The Punta Gorda Police Department confirmed to WPBF 25 News on Tuesday that Tiffany Lee Viola previously worked for the police department from 2013 to 2018,” the outlet wrote. “The police department could not provide or confirm a date of birth since Viola is a former officer.” They also have not responded to a follow-up message asking to confirm whether the woman in Griffith’s mugshot is their former employee.

“A court document revealed that Viola was Griffith’s maiden name before she was married. The document included a matching date of birth that was on the arrest report,” the report continued. “Several posts on the Punta Gorda Police Department Facebook page list Viola as a school resource officer.”

In a Facebook post from the department, dated October 2016, the woman identified as Viola can be seen giving a lecture on “the negative consequences of bullying and sexting.”

One month later, in November 2016, Viola was named “Employee of the Quarter” in a post shared to X.

Griffith’s bond was set at $20,000, which was posted. Conditions of her release include no alcohol consumption, no contact with the victim or his family, and no returning to the scene of the alleged crime. She is also not allowed to have contact with any witnesses to the December incident.
