Former immigration hawk Cuccinelli urges Fox to stop allowing Abbott to ‘spew garbage’ on border unchallenged

Former Acting Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Ken Cuccinelli hammered his “friend” Governor Greg Abbott of Texas on Monday for bragging about his efforts to “repel illegal crossings,” calling on Fox News to not allow him to “spew this garbage unchallenged.”

This is nothing new for Cuccinelli who has been critical of Abbott’s handling of the border and illegal immigrants for some time now.

Abbott appeared on Fox News stating that in order to fight back following the ending of Title 42 on the border, Texas would deploy its own “Tactical Border Force.” That appearance follows a press conference at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport where he shared details about Texas’ measures to address President Biden’s border crisis, which is about to get much, much worse as the border is flung wide open on Thursday.

The governor claims the force is comprised of “elite National Guard, who are specifically trained for one thing. And that is to identify areas where illegal immigrants are trying to cross the border and to fill that gap and to repel them, to deny them access, to entry into the United States.” He reportedly will mobilize as many as 10,000 National Guard members and 1,200 troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety for the force.

“They can do it one of several ways. They can physically turn back those who are trying to cross the border illegally. Also, they’re building immediate Concertina wire border barriers that prevent people from coming across the border,” Abbott contended.

“You saw an early iteration of this back in December when you saw long lines of people trying to cross into El Paso. In a matter of 24 hours, the National Guard built a Concertina wire border barrier and it stopped that inflow immediately. We’re using strategies like that up and down the border to identify locations where the cartels are trying to smuggle people across the border and put a stop to it,” he added.

Abbott sent out a tweet on Monday where he reiterated that the “Tactical Border Force” would repel illegal crossings.

“We’re deploying the new Texas Tactical Border Force to border hotspots to repel illegal crossings. These elite soldiers will fill in the gaps in preparation for Title 42 ending this week. In Biden’s absence, Texas continues taking unprecedented action to respond to this crisis,” he wrote.

Cuccinelli, who recently founded Never Back Down, which is a political action committee supporting Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ potential presidential campaign, clapped back at the claim.

“I’m sorry to say, but my friend @GregAbbott_TX is not … ummm… ‘being accurate’ here…” Cuccinelli charged. “He is NOT ‘repelling’ illegal crossings, despite having the constitutional authority to do so. C’mon @FoxNews, letting him spew this garbage unchallenged is an embarrassment.”

With Title 42 expiring on Thursday, it is expected that approximately 13,000 illegal immigrants will swarm across the border a day, with over a million expected to surge into the United States. It is highly unlikely that Abbott’s efforts will stop the influx of illegal immigrants that the Biden administration has reportedly orchestrated.
