Former WH lawyer tells CNN Trump is likely going to jail for violating gag order

Former Trump White House attorney Ty Cobb predicts that Donald Trump will ultimately be sent to jail for violating a gag order imposed on him.

Cobb, who likened the former president to a “mob boss” in a previous CNN appearance, offered his prognostication on the network Tuesday evening after U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan reinstated a gag order against Trump in his D.C. election interference case that she had previously placed a temporary hold on so he could file an appeal.

According to the attorney, Trump will force the judge’s hand leaving her no choice but to place him behind bars — Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron has already fined Trump $15,000 for violating a gag order in his $250 million New York fraud civil trial.

“One other thing I wanted to ask you about just as a quick follow here before we go on the point about the gag order,” CNN host Erin Burnett said. “So, where does he end up on this?”

“Well, the New York judge fined him $10,000,” Cobb replied, getting the amount wrong. “That’s in a civil case. That’s not as consequential as Judge Chutkan’s case… I think she’ll come in with a much heavier penalty, and ultimately, I think he’ll spend a night or a weekend in jail.”

Burnett was quite impressed by the prediction, prompting Cobb to add, “I think it’s gonna take that. I think it’ll take that to stop him.”

“Wow, that’ll be an incredible thing to actually see happen,” Burnett gushed.

Special counsel Jack Smith has asked Judge Chutkan to reimpose a gag order on Trump after accusing the former president of threatening Mark Meadows, who served as his chief of staff, after Trump said in a Truth Social post that only “weaklings and cowards” would cooperate with prosecutors.

For what it’s worth, Trump has stated that he is willing to go to jail — the media reaction would be one for the record books.

“This is weaponry all being done because Joe Biden is losing the election. And losing very, very badly to all of us in the polls,” Trump said at an Iowa rally earlier this month, speaking of the various legal cases against him. “But what they don’t understand is that I am willing to go to jail if that’s what it takes for our country to win and to become a democracy again.”
