Fox guest praises Trump for ‘judo move’ to turn trial into ‘political gold’

A Fox News guest marveled at how presumptive GOP nominee Donald J. Trump has been able to capitalize politically on the Democrats’ lawfare cases against him.

On Thursday, Trump was back in the New York City courtroom where he’s being tried on charges concocted by rabidly partisan Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who ran on the pledge that he’d get the former president.

During a segment on Trump’s remarks to reporters at a post-court presser, Fox News host Neil Cavuto welcomed a panel of legal experts, one of whom was John Yoo, a former George W. Bush administration official who is now an Emanuel Heller Professor of Law at the University of California at Berkeley.

Yoo, who served as deputy assistant attorney general in the Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) under Bush, was impressed with what he called a “judo move” by Trump to turn the politicized prosecutions into “political gold” that has boosted him in the polls.

After first commenting on the onerous gag order imposed by partisan Judge Merchan that strips Trump of his right to defend himself from smears by the likes of slimy disgraced ex-attorney Michael Cohen, Yoo pointed out how deftly that Trump has been able to use the persecution to his advantage.

“You know, I agree with President Trump that he’s under an unprecedented, unfair gag order when you take into account the campaign,” Yoo said. “But as we’ve talked about before, maybe I’m being contrarian here. Even though he’s suffering these legal setbacks, he’s turning it into political gold.”

“As you mentioned, he’s six points ahead of Biden amongst registered voters nationwide. It’s incredible how he sort of performed a judo move on Biden and these prosecutors by turning these attacks into favorable political ratings,” he added.

“I think maybe part of his what we just saw, Biden has trouble giving a press conference and stringing cogent sentences together. I tell you, Neil, you sit in a courtroom for ten days in a row where you can’t say anything, and all you have to do is listen to people attack you, and then at the end of that day, you get up and give a pretty good press conference there, pretty good cogent statements not typed, you know, no transcript written out for you not practiced, and so you look at that contrast between him and Biden and he comes out looking better,” Yoo said.

Trump not only gave a masterful press conference but also further endeared himself to his supporters when he delivered pizza to NYFD firefighters after spending the day in Judge Merchan’s courtroom being smeared in the Stormy Daniels “hush money” trial.

The Democrats’ abuse of the legal system to kneecap Trump in an election year has already backfired bigly and if he’s convicted on sham charges by a hostile New York City jury and sent to jail by Merchan, he could win the election in a landslide of a size not seen since Ronald Reagan crushed Walter Mondale in 1984, winning 49 of 50 states.
