Fox News reacts to James Comer’s ‘insulting’ claim against Steve Doocy

An “insulting” excerpt from Kentucky Rep. James Comer’s (R) new book had Fox News pushing back on claims about one “Fox & Friends” co-host.

The years spent investigating alleged corruption involving President Joe Biden, his family and foreign businesses had often faced expected defenses from corporate media outlets favoring leftist politicians. According to the chair of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, he’d experienced the same from Fox News’ Steve and Peter Doocy, suggesting a potential connection to the host’s daughter, FBI Assistant General Counsel Mary Doocy.

According to an excerpt from Comer’s new book about alleged schemes that made the Biden’s rich, “All The President’s Money,” the elder Doocy had been critically covering him because he’d “seemed to piss” off the counselor after a “hasty return” of a heavily-redacted document.

“Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but her father, ‘Fox & Friends’ host Steve Doocy, and her brother, Fox White House correspondent Peter Doocy, would soon become my biggest critics on Fox News for the remainder of the investigation,” wrote Comer in a snippet highlighted by Mediaite. “And they didn’t let up off camera either. Many of the White House videos criticizing me, and many of the legacy media outlets’ false narratives citing disparaging comments about me and the investigation, were from the Doocys.”

Reacting to the claim, Fox News issued a statement to Oliver Darcy’s Status Monday, the same day that Comer had appeared on “Hannity” to promote his book, that contended, “The first time Steve Doocy and Peter Doocy were even made aware of what took place in the SCIF (sensitive compartmented information facility) with James Comer was tonight when they saw this book excerpt which speaks volumes about how scrupulous they are and the high ethical bar their family operates with.”

“Suffice it to say Comer’s attack is off base and insulting,” argued the outlet.

In December 2023, Comer had told Newsmax host Eric Bolling, formerly of Fox News, that he would no longer go on “Fox & Friends” because of the elder Doocy.

“The Republicans at this point don’t have — they have a lot of ledgers and spreadsheets, but they have not connected the dots,” the curvy couch co-host had said in a clip. “They’ve connected the dots, the Department of Justice did on Hunter [Biden], but they have not shown where Joe biden, you know, did anything illegally.”

“Well, I think we’ve done a pretty good job connecting the dots. We’ve traced two checks from influence peddling schemes going directly into Joe Biden’s pocket,” argued Comer who went on to refer to Doocy as “the one guy on Fox that’s been very critical of the investigation. I have my theory why, and we’ll talk about that at a later point, but at the end of the day, he’s entitled to his opinion, but I don’t think the average viewer of Fox News agrees with Doocy one bit.”
