Gavin Newsom, who banned guns at protests, suddenly appreciates second amendment?

California Governor Gavin Newsom seems to have a sudden appreciation for the Second Amendment following the shooting of a protester by federal immigration agents in Minneapolis.

The Democrat and likely 2028 presidential candidate appeared to forget an inconvenient truth about his own policies as he tried to dunk on President Donald Trump’s administration and immigration crackdowns.

“The Trump administration does not believe in the 2nd Amendment. Good to know,” Newsom posted on social media, responding to a clip of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent during an ABC News interview.

Bessent told  ABC News “This Week” co-anchor Jonathan Karl that ” it’s a tragedy when anyone dies, but I can tell you the situation on the ground there is being stirred up by Governor Walz.”

“I am sorry that this gentleman is dead, but he did bring a nine-millimeter semi-automatic weapon with two cartridges to what was supposed to be a peaceful protest. I think that there are a lot of paid agitators who are ginning things up, and the governor has not done a good job of tamping this down,” he added.

When Karl pushed his “gotcha” questions at the secretary, citing the Second Amendment, Bessent repeatedly asked him, “Have you gone to a protest?”

“I mean, I’ve — no, actually, as a reporter covering it,” Karl eventually replied.

“OK. I’ve been to a protest,” Bessent said. “Guess what? I didn’t bring a gun. I brought a billboard.”

Newsom’s reaction to the clip and the obvious memory lapse of signing several anti-gun laws in California, with three just last October, as he declared his state’s “ongoing commitment to gun safety.”

Social media users gave the Democratic leader a solid reminder and called out his seeming about-face in an effort to insult and defame federal immigration officers.
