A gender reveal party turned deadly when a participating plane crashed while playing its role, killing the 32-year-old pilot.
The event took place on Saturday in Sinaloa, Mexico, with the expectant mother and father standing in front of an “Oh baby” sign surrounded by pink and blue balloons. The plan was for the plane to fly over the happy couple and release pink-colored water to signify that they were having a girl.
But as the pilot did so and began a rapid climb, one of the plane’s wings appeared to crumble causing the the aircraft to nosedive into the ground. For a split second, those on the ground did not comprehend the tragedy unfolding as they celebrated the supposedly joyful moment with cheer as the couple kissed.

The Piper PA-25-235 Pawnee aircraft fell to the ground and the pilot, Luis Angel N., was found lying in the rubble after the crash, according to the Daily Mail.
Angel was rushed to hospital but did not survive the crash, according to the Aviation Safety Network.
“Piper PA-25-235 Pawnee crashed after the left-hand wing failed after an emergency hopper release of (pink dyed) water during a gender reveal party,” the agency said.
The moral of the story, at least in the eyes of many on social media, is that maybe it’s time to put an end to gender reveal parties — here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
Preflights are important.

I’ve been around Crop Dusters most of my life, I’ve never seen a wing fold up like that before, thankfully!

So sad. I never understood this new trend of gender reveal parties. Such a waste of resources and energy, and often harmful with these extravagant displays. Now even deadly. It makes no sense to me. The concept didn’t exist when my kids were born and we were the better for it.

I am no fan or the reveal… But it was not the parents’ fault that the pilot either exceeded the aeroplane’s wing loading or the plane had a major structural fault; either way, that plane, or pilot was an accident in waiting.
