Few journalists have been as consistently shameless for as long as Geraldo Rivera and the veteran gadfly just happened to pop up during an event where Bill Barr was speaking and, as a member of the audience, set up the perfect question for the former attorney general to serve up a shot at his former boss, President Donald J. Trump whom he has demonstrated a particular fondness for jabbing.
During Barr’s appearance at the City Club of Cleveland on Friday, the 79-year-old set the table for the always loquacious Barr who served as the head of the Justice Department under two U.S. presidents of vastly differing governing styles in different eras, buttering him up with flattery before posing the question that would be the money quote in headlines across the media for the evening news cycle.

“You really are my favorite person in Washington, D.C.,” gushed Rivera. “I’m filled with admiration for the way you kept being relatively friendly with the president, the way you kept the walls from falling in. Kept him from absolutely cranking up during ‘Russia, Russia, Russia,’ as he was being assailed nonstop.”
“Having said that, I think January 6 was more profoundly disruptive and more serious than some of your remarks, but you are my favorite person in Washington. I think you’re the most honest person in Washington,” he continued, practically slobbering over Barr.
Rivera continued to lay it on thick, “And the question I have for you, given that I trust you so, Is Donald Trump. A lot of my friends say ‘ok he’s made mistakes and ok, January 6th, ok this and that, it’s his policies that we’d be voting for,’ given the pragmatic side also, do you think he is emotionally fit to be president of the United States? I disagree, I think that Trump and Biden will be the candidates that, whatever that says about the United States, is he fit to be president of the United States. Is Donald Trump fit to be president?”
“If you believe in his policies — what he’s advertising to be his policies — he’s the last person that could actually execute them and achieve them,” Barr responded. “He does not have the discipline, he does not have the ability for strategic thinking or linear thinking, or setting priorities, or how to get things done in the system.”
“It is a horror show when he’s left to his own devices. You may want his policies but Trump will not deliver Trump policies,” he added. “He will deliver chaos, and if anything, lead to a backlash that will set his policies much further back than they otherwise would be.”
Cynics who would be accused of “conspiratorial” thinking might be inclined to suggest that Rivera’s question suspiciously looked as if it were planted, especially with Barr’s perfect line.
Rivera’s surprise appearance in Cleveland comes as his regular appearances on Fox News’s popular show “The Five” were unexpectedly canceled for the rest of the week, news that comes as he has butted heads with co-host Greg Gutfeld on more than one occasion recently.
“My appearances today and tomorrow on The Five have been canceled. I’m sure there’s a good reason. Never fear, I’ll be back week after next. Stay safe and happy. Thanks ” Rivera tweeted on Thursday.

Trump has frequently criticized Barr since the two men had a major falling out after the 2020 election, recently tearing into him for remarks made during one of Barr’s media appearances now that he has become a beloved go-to guy for the same press that wanted his head on a pike during his time in the Trump administration.

While he correctly puts down the N.Y.D.A. case, he plays up the equally ridiculous BOXES HOAX, where Biden should have the problem, not me. Barr is a weak & angry RINO!” Trump railed on Truth Social last month.
