There’s little doubt that California Gov. Gavin Newsom is running for president in 2028, and there’s also little doubt that the Democrat understands the radical left-wing base that makes up his party today.
In what is likely a play to that base, Newsom launched a vulgar attack on Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill, who issued an arrest warrant for Dr. Remy Coeytaux, a Sonoma County, California, doctor who allegedly mailed abortion pills to a Louisiana woman after she ordered them online.
“Kathy Hochul and Gavin Newsom are not above the Constitution, and we will hold them accountable. The Supreme Court’s precedents on important Constitutional provisions like the Extradition Clause and the Full Faith and Credit Clause forbid this assault on Louisiana’s sovereignty and her citizens,” Murrill said in a statement this week.
(The governor of New York was named because Hochul is refusing to extradite Dr. Margaret Carpenter, who was indicted in Louisiana last year for mailing abortion pills to a teenager.)
Newsom wasted no time pouncing on the opportunity to show his crude base that he’s right there with them.
“Louisiana plans to sue me because I won’t extradite a doctor for providing an abortion,” the Democrat wrote. “@AGLizMurrill: Go f*ck yourself. California will never help you criminalize healthcare.”

The Democrat-dominated California legislature passed a telemedicine abortion shield law in 2023 to protect doctors from being extradited for allegedly violating another state’s abortion laws.
Keep in mind, not long ago, such a crass reply by a politician would have ensured that person’s political end, but we have devolved significantly as a society in a very short time. Now, at least on the left, that person is celebrated.
Of course, if Newsom prevails in the Democratic primary, expect him to clean up his act significantly in the general.
