Gun registry? Jim Jordan raises major red flag over report Biden’s ATF has database of 1 billion gun sales

The ATF has compiled a database of almost one billion legal gun owners over the past 20 years, according to Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH.)

This database consists of hard copies of form 4473 that must be filled out with each purchase of a firearm from a federally licensed firearms dealer (FFL), as well as digital information. During an interview with Fox News Channel’s ‘The Ingraham Angle’, Jordan expressed concerns that those files might be abused by the Biden administration.

According to new information from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) obtained by the Washington Free Beacon, the ATF disclosed to lawmakers that it manages a database of 920,664,765 firearm purchase records, including both digital and hard copy versions of these transactions.

When a licensed gun store goes out of business, its private records detailing gun transactions become ATF property and are stored at a federal site in West Virginia. The practice has contributed to the fears of gun advocacy groups and Second Amendment champions in Congress that the federal government is creating a national database of gun owners, which violates longstanding federal statutes.

Jordan expressed his concerns regarding this administration potentially misusing the database, which Ingraham pointed out are now all being digitized.

“This is frightening,” Jordan said. “You have the FBI going after parents, the DOJ forming a domestic terrorism unit, and now the ATF going after law-abiding gun owners…with every single gun purchase by a law-abiding gun owner now being recorded.”

“This is scary stuff what they’ve done to our First Amendment rights and now what they’re doing to our Second Amendment Liberties,” Jordan said of the Biden administration. “All in a single year.”

Jordan also expressed surprise and concern over the size and scope of the government’s records.

“A federal firearm registry is explicitly banned by law,” Republican Congressman Michael Cloud, (R-TX) told the Washington Free Beacon. However, the Biden administration has been “circumventing Congress” and using loopholes in the legislation to still work towards creating such a database, he insisted. “Under the president’s watch, the ATF has increased surveillance on American gun owners at an abhorrent level,” the congressman added.

The federal affairs director of the Gun Owners of America, Aidan Johnston, reacted to the news by saying: “Make no mistake – this is clear evidence that a partial national gun registry exists.” According to Johnston and other gun activists, the federal government may eventually use the database to “confiscate” firearms from the population, in defiance of the Second Amendment.
