It’s a safe bet to suggest a fair number of Baby Boomers are familiar with a belt or a switch being used as a means of discipline — legendary comedian Richard Pryor did a bit about his grandmother making him go out and pick the switch off a tree that she would then use on him.
But in today’s soft society, that seems as taboo as tar and feathering, prompting Fox News host Sean Hannity to call America the “land of the snowflake.”
Hannity was responding to the over-the-top, inflammatory language from “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin when he reminded viewers his father used a belt to spank him — Hostin called House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) a “terrorist” on Thursday and Hannity mocked her for being a “snowflake.”
“I will just say about Jim Jordan, he has been called, by his own party, by John Boehner, a political terrorist,” the left-wing harpie said, fearful of the possibility that Jordan may be elected the next speaker of the House. “I testified in front of Congress about something so simple, cameras and courtrooms. He came in late, he looked disheveled, and he immediately was screaming and yelling, and terrorized me and the other experts on the panel. And describing him as a terrorist is exactly that, he’s a chaos agent.”
This divisive, hate-filled rhetoric is brought to you by ABC, of course.

“Aw! The poor little snowflakes got offended that somebody actually, you know, raised their voice slightly. Oh, the shame of it,” Hannity said in response. “By the way, when my father would hit me with a belt, I didn’t actually raise my voice. How did this country— you know, we used to be the land of the free, home of the brave. What happened? When did we become the land of the snowflake?”
This is not the first time Hannity has said on air that his father used a belt to discipline him. Back in 2014, Hannity spoke about this while discussing NFL star Adrian Peterson being indicted for beating his four-year-old son with a stick.
“I got hit with a strap, bam, bam, bam — and I’ve never been to a shrink — by my father. I would tell you that I deserved it,” he said, pulling his belt off for the theatrical effect. “My father punched me in the face when I talked back to him once, and I deserved it.”
“I got it like this,” he said as he slapped the desk with his belt. “And I deserved it. I was a troubled kid.”
