An illegal alien who was deported years ago but returned afterward has now been charged in the vehicular death of a 23-year-old Ohio man.
Illegal alien Alvaro Uribe Gonzalez, 33, was driving east on Sunday while impaired and without a valid driver’s license when his 2016 GMC Terrain “traveled off the right side of the road,” according to The Scioto Post.
“Gonzalez then overcorrected, causing the SUV to cross the roadway, overturn and enter the westbound lanes,” the Ohio outlet reported. “The GMC Terrain struck a westbound 2025 Chevrolet Trax before catching fire.”
Inside the Chevrolet Trax were 23-year-old Cameron Lyon and his fiancée, 23-year-old Abrielle Kerns. Lyon was taken to a hospital where he later died due to critical injuries. His fiancée remains in intensive care, “fighting to recover,” according to an Ohio State Highway Patrol statement reviewed by Fox News.

Gonzalez has since been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol, and operating a motor vehicle without a valid license. He’s currently being held without bond.
Meanwhile, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged a detainer for Gonzalez due to his status as an illegal alien.
“Cameron had his whole life ahead of him, and that life was stolen by this criminal who never should have been in our country in the first place,” Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said in a statement.
“ICE has lodged a detainer asking officials in Ohio to cooperate with us and not release him from jail, so that we can remove him from this country,” he added. “Deporting illegal aliens is our duty because it saves lives.”
According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Gonzalez illegally entered the U.S. in January 2020, was deported several months later, but then returned “at an unknown date and location.”

As for Lyon, he’d just proposed to Kerns over the summer and also started a new job as a teacher.
“Lyon’s mother said he had just proposed to his fiancée during a family trip to Rhode Island in July and the two of them were renovating the family’s farmhouse together,” according to Columbus station WBNS.
“He just graduated from Otterbein University and had begun a job teaching social studies to middle schoolers at the Crestline Exempted Village School District,” the station’s reporting continued.
His death piqued the attention of Sen. Jon Husted.
“I am outraged to learn of another Ohioan who lost their life,” the senator said in a statement. “I’m praying for their family as they mourn this loss and for a full recovery of the passenger in the vehicle. This is the third death of an Ohioan by an illegal immigrant driver on our roads in 10 days. I’m actively working on ways to prevent these tragedies and keep Ohioans safe.”
Lyon’s death also caught the attention of Republican Ohio gubernatorial nominee Vivek Ramaswamy:

“I’m going to put an end to this nonsense in Ohio by ending sanctuary cities and taking enforcement steps, including 287G that allows local law enforcement to work with ICE,” he said in the video above.
“My opponent Amy Acton, shame on her. She compares ICE to the KKK. I’m not kidding you,” he added. “You can look at her own words during this campaign. God forbid someone like that comes to power again. We’re going to protect Ohioans in this state, put Ohioans first, and that means restoring the rule of law and fighting illegal immigration.”
