Hilarious moment KJP calls on ‘most hungover person’ in press pool: ‘That was the promise I made’

Unlike the typical hostilities displayed between President Joe Biden’s communications team and conservative news outlets, a moment of levity occurred at Thursday’s White House press briefing when one correspondent announced “I’m the most hungover in the room…”

While much ado was paid to the routine verbal sparring between White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy when he pressed her revelations from “The Twitter Files,” the moment that followed may have been one of the more humorous exchanges to take place in the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room.

As previously reported, Doocy had finished asking about the prisoner exchange of WNBA player Brittney Griner for Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout when he inquired about evidence that suggested then-candidate Biden’s campaign had sought the suppression of posts on Twitter. “You’ve said a few times that you really can’t talk about communications between the Biden campaign and Twitter. Who is telling you that that’s off-limits?”

After brushing the question aside claiming the matter had already been addressed “multiple times this week,” Jean-Pierre cut off Doocy’s attempts to clarify by calling on another reporter, “I’m going to the back. I’m going to the back. I’m going to the back. Go ahead.”

Ed Lawrence of Fox Business got the nod and as he began, “Yeah, thanks, Karine. On a different topic-” another correspondent could be heard lamenting, “That’s not the back. That’s the middle.”

While Lawrence continued “-so the incoming-” and the press secretary made assurances, “We’ll keep–we’ll keep going,” Newsmax chief White House correspondent James Rosen had his own two cents to add as he spoke up, from a couple of rows back, “Also, I’m the most hungover in the room, as you promised yesterday.”

“Oh, are you? Okay. I’m coming back,” Jean-Pierre exclaimed as Rosen hammed it up putting his hand to his temple, “My head is killing me. Wow.”

“You’re right. I said that I would go to the most hungover person in the room. You’re right. Go ahead,” she said all smiles as Lawrence reset. “That was the promise I made last night. You’re absolutely right. Go ahead.”

As it happened, Fox News reporter Anders Hagstrom confirmed the promise when he tweeted Thursday, “White House press sec Karine Jean-Pierre says she promised the press pool last night that she would call on the ‘most hungover’ reporter at the briefing.”

That promise had evidently occurred at the White House Correspondents Association holiday party that had taken place the night before. Of course, while many members of the press pool in attendance found humor in the moment with laughter and smiles spreading throughout the room, the recently slighted Doocy, who whipped his head around to see who had made the claim, understandably showed no visible signs of amusement.
