Having championed diversity, equity, and inclusion hiring over actual competence for years, Democrats and the media are now screaming racism when anyone suggests that VP Kamala Harris is only where she is because of DEI.
The hypersensitivity to calling a spade a spade when it comes to the presumptive Democrat nominee has sparked savage pushback from the left who have vilified Republicans for daring to point out that the loopy veep has benefited more from skin color and gender than her job performance.
One of them is Tim Burchett (R-TN) who walked back his remarks that Harris is a “DEI hire,” but also stuck to his guns that it’s the truth.
The Volunteer State Republican drew fierce pushback when he suggested to CNN’s Manu Raju that Harris was only tabbed as Joe Biden’s running mate because of her race and reproductive organs.

Burchett elaborated on the controversy during a Wednesday appearance on “The Laura Coates Show” on SiriusXM explaining that he’s not the racist that he has been smeared as being.
“When folks are explained that this was in fact a statement that the president had made and that it was one of his criteria for putting her on the ballot with him, then folks understand it… and actually members of Congress, both parties, have said, look, yeah, we get it, but this is what we got to do because this is what our base and our leadership’s demanding. So, yeah. Do I wish I’d said it? No, but it was the truth,” he said per a transcript from a left-leaning website.
“I’m not a racist and it’s being interpreted that, and I would just ask folks to look at my record, and you know, you’re not gonna know the content of my heart, but that’s the furthest thing from my mind,” he told the host. “I just want the best players put in. I’ve seen too many people of color skipped over by other members of color because they were connected and that infuriates me because a lot of good folks get passed over and a lot of ladies get passed over because some other lady is connected. I just don’t like that.”
The congressman said that Raju ambushed him right after a heated hearing with now-former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle.
“It was a hot meeting over the Secret Service director, and I actually… I was asked about her and I continued to say that she was a terrible hire, which she was,” Burchett explained, “and she ended up resigning in shame, and then you know, then the CNN reporter stuck in the part about the vice president.”
Democrats have reacted with their standard playing of the race card when anyone dares to suggest that DEI has been a factor in hiring and promotions, especially when it comes to the obviously incompetent Harris.
Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL) who himself has benefited greatly from DEI, told CNN that it’s just white supremacist code speak for a more inflammatory racial pejorative.

“No one likes to eat their own words, but when you force-feed Americans your DEI garbage, please be prepared to have a plate,” Burchett wrote on X, sharing an article from a conservative website that noted that President Joe Biden himself acknowledged that Harris is a DEI hire.

“To me, the values of diversity, equality, inclusion are literally — and this is not kidding — the core strengths of America,” Biden said in a May speech, according to a White House website transcript. “That’s why I’m proud to have the most diverse administration in history that taps into the full talents of our country. And it starts at the top with the Vice President.”
