‘I would pay money’: Ben Shapiro pitches ‘must-see TV’ choice for Trump press secretary

Ben Shapiro, the host of The Daily Wire’s “The Ben Shapiro Show,” suggested on Thursday that President Donald Trump should appoint conspiracy theorist and provocateur extraordinaire Alex Jones as press secretary.

Shapiro, an orthodox conservative, offered up the suggestion a day after President Trump announced that current White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt will be stepping down at the end of the month.

Speaking a day later about Leavitt’s potential replacement, Shapiro ran through a list of viable potential replacements, including The Daily Wire’s own Michael Knowles, before turning to more humorous options.

“My off-the-board pick for most amusing White House press secretary: Alex Jones,” he said. “I would pay money for it.”

He continued by stressing that although he believes Jones “is just a nut job who believes a wide variety of either crazy or terrible things,” he recognizes that “Jones mocking the press would be legitimately one of the great spectacles in the history of American politics.”

“Like, Alex Jones doing to the press what he did to Sneako in crossing his eyes and screaming at the top of his lungs while ripping his shirt off — it would be must-see TV,” he explained. “So if the president wants ratings, I highly suggest he hires Alex Jones as his press secretary.”

Sneako is a Muslim streamer whom Jones recently destroyed in a debate by screaming at the top of his lungs and acting like an utter fool.

The strategy worked because, like much of what the media says, everything Sneako was saying was complete nonsense.

During Shapiro’s Thursday show, he did also offer some serious suggestions for a legitimate White House press secretary.

“So there’s some talk about who’s going to take over next,” he began. “Stephen Chung has been mentioned. He, of course, is very active in the White House press office. He’s a top official over there. Again, Stephen is very articulate, but I doubt he’s quite the look that President Trump is looking for.”

“The president likes putting attractive faces from Fox News on the air. So, you know, I think there’s a shot for maybe a Liz Wheeler or somebody like that in that spot,” he added.

Shapiro then suggested that perhaps The Daily Wire’s own Mary Margaret Olohan, a reporter, take the job.

“So it’s kind of a shift in job, but she’s very camera-friendly,” he noted. “She’s very articulate, obviously, very up on policy. I hope that the president doesn’t offer that a job because we need her as an actual White House press correspondent, not working for the White House.”

Continuing his list, Shapiro then turned to fellow The Daily Wire host Michael Knowles, a cigar smoker with a penchant for “handling the press.”

“Michael Knowles would be an amazing press secretary, honestly, and that’s not just my attempt to get him off our payroll, which, you know, I’ve been trying that for like 10 years,” he said. “But actually, Michael is really good at handling the press. He would stay calm. He’s very, you know, sort of clever.”

“He likes the repartee. It’s almost Knowles’ ideal job. So, you know, that’d be amusing. Watching Knowles play with the press would be fun. Some other names. Scott Jennings has been discussed. Listen, Scott would be great at it. I don’t think Scott’s going to do it from CNN,” he concluded.

As for good ol’ Jones, there would be a precedent for his appointment — the appointment of Anthony Scaramucci, aka “The Mooch.”

While Scaramucci’s summer 2017 appointment lasted just a weekend, he made a name for himself with his outlandish behavior, including his blowing of a kiss to the mainstream establishment press.

Watch:

Scaramucci was dismissed by President Trump days later at the recommendation of then-White House chief of staff John Kelly after the then-press secretary talked a bunch of trash about the Trump administration to The New Yorker.
