ICE chase ends with Democratic mayor’s wife in the wreckage

A blue state’s anti-ICE policies loomed large after a Democratic politician’s wife became the victim of an accident allegedly caused by a fleeing illegal alien.

“We told them that this would create chaos …”

Wednesday morning in North Brunswick, New Jersey, Optimum News 12 reported that federal agents stopped an illegal alien only for the man to attempt to flee arrest, speeding through at least one red light before plowing into a Tesla. As the injured driver of the struck vehicle was said to be the wife of the East Brunswick mayor, GOP lawmakers slammed New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill (D) over the “chaos” resulting from her policies against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“You kind of reap what you sow,” New Jersey Assemblyman Paul Kanitra (R) told Fox News Digital.

“This is just the latest in a long line of traffic incidents and vehicular incidents that wouldn’t occur if New Jersey didn’t have our sanctuary status that got codified as soon as Gov. Sherrill came into office,” he contended. “We all fought against it. We told them that this would create chaos, and it seems like Democrats are unable to take accountability for their own actions.”

In March, Sherrill signed a law limiting collaboration between local law enforcement and federal immigration officers in addition to prohibiting the use of masks and barring state agencies from providing information about the immigration status of people.

The latest victim of leftist anti-law enforcement policies left Dr. Penelope Cohen, wife of failed congressional candidate East Brunswick Mayor Brad Cohen (D), with a leg injury after her Tesla was struck by the fleeing illegal alien.

Meanwhile, outgoing Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D), whose seat Cohen failed to secure, further demonized ICE and called for the agency’s abolishment, citing an incident outside the infamous Delaney Hall along with the crash, stating in part on X, “Today, it appears an ICE involved car chase resulted in an accident involving the wife of the Mayor of East Brunswick. ICE’s lawlessness is putting innocent people in harms way.”

“Democrats seemingly have an inability to take accountability for their own actions here. They’re unable to even recognize the chaos that they’re creating, and they’re shouting and screaming at everybody else trying to find someone to blame. It’s somewhat ridiculous,” said Kanitra, as at least two people in his district alone have been killed in connection with illegal alien drivers.

Commenting on Wednesday’s crash, a spokesperson for ICE told Fox News Digital, “After repeated verbal warnings and due to officer safety concerns, ICE officers relied on their training and attempted to safely remove the illegal alien [from their car]. The illegal alien then proceeded to flee at a high rate of speed and collided with other vehicles.”

As counties in his district have failed to achieve interagency cooperation agreements with ICE under Sherrill, New Jersey state Sen. Mike Testa (R) told Fox News Digital, “I think it has only emboldened illegal aliens to engage in illegal behavior. This illegal alien was stopped lawfully by federal authorities, ran through a red light, fleeing federal authorities and unfortunately ran into the mayor of East Brunswick’s wife.”

Pointing to the congresswoman’s post, he added, “This is just another example of lawlessness. And sadly, there’s been a stamp of approval from radical leftists like Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman saying ICE should be abolished rather than actually punishing the criminal that put multiple citizens’ lives at risk.”
