Embattled Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) easily won reelection for a fifth term as voters shrugged off a major scandal over whether she fraudulently obtained her U.S. citizenship.
The “Squad” member was once again propelled to victory by virtue of overwhelming approval from the local Somali diaspora as well as other voters in one of the nation’s most deeply blue congressional districts, holding onto the House seat that she has occupied since 2018.
Omar crushed her GOP opponent John Nagel in Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, getting more than 76 percent of the vote, a result that was never really in question despite the possibility that she could be stripped of her citizenship and put on a plane back to Mogadishu if it is found that her father lied on her immigration paperwork.
🇺🇸 Ilhan Omar dancing almost sarcastically as the results of the midterm elections come in.
She was just re-elected for the 4th time to represent Minnesota’s 5th district.
The Jack won’t be flowing, but you can bet they’ll be partying till the cows come home.

The Somalia-born lawmaker’s win comes just short of a month after her Washington, D.C. home was raided by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents as part of what the Justice Department said was an “ongoing federal criminal investigation.”
President Donald J. Trump has verbally pummeled Omar during his pre-midterm barnstorming tour and called for her to resign from Congress.
Now she’s going back.
Thank you, Minnesota! I’m incredibly honored to continue to represent you in the People’s House with a resounding mandate.

“Thank you, Minnesota! I’m incredibly honored to continue to represent you in the People’s House with a resounding mandate. We will not allow Trump to silence us,” the victorious congresswoman wrote in a Tuesday night post to X.
In addition to the ethically-challenged Omar, the other three charter “Squad” members also easily cruised to victory.

“Squad” leader and 2028 White House hopeful Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) bulldozed her GOP opponent Diamant Hysenaj 78-22 in New York’s 14th congressional district.
Omar’s fellow Muslim bomb-thrower, Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) routed Republican James Hooper 76-21 in Michigan’s 12th congressional district, and Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) ran uncontested in Massachusetts’ 7th congressional district.
The quartet’s wins were a part of the “blue tsunami” that swept Democrats back into control of both the House and Senate in a brutal national rebuke of Trump and the Republican Party, who were blamed by voters for gas and diesel prices that have spiked as a result of the Iran war.
“I’m deeply grateful to the people of Minnesota’s 5th District who voted to send me back to Congress,” Omar said in a statement. “It is the honor of my life to serve you in the People’s House. We will keep fighting back against this callous administration—and fighting for what people deserve: an economy that works for us, healthcare for every Minnesotan, holding ICE accountable, and a democracy that belongs to all of us, not billionaires.”
Whether or not Omar is allowed to serve out her term in absentia if she gets deported is unclear.
