U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), one of the first two Muslin women elected to office, was feeling a 1980’s Beasties Boy vibe and it was every bit as cringe as it sounds.
The Somali refugee is living life large now that she has come to the United States and found the pot of gold at the end of the gamed political system in America, even taking it to a new level by marrying the political consultant on the receiving end of millions of campaign dollars from the Democratic lawmaker — the political consultant-turned-venture capitalist was recently accused of swindling an investor in a California winery.
Taking to X ahead of Tuesday’s Democratic congressional primary, Omar, who faces a second challenge from a Minneapolis city council member, voiced her desire to “fight for her right to party.” Literally.
The radical left “Squad” member shared a video clip of herself singing the 1986 hit song at a local bar, adding in the caption: “Fighting for the right to party Fighting for the right to bodily autonomy. Fighting for the right to a livable planet. Fighting for the right to universal healthcare.”

Clearly, Omar has learned that when it comes to influencing easily distracted, self-absorbed Americans, the lowest common denominator is the best bet. And yes, alcohol is served in bars.
With two other “Squad” members already jettisoned by primary voters — U.S. Reps. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) and Cori Bush (D-MO) — can America be worthy of seeing Omar’s name added to the list?
Stay tuned, as Omar only won by 2 points in 2022. Working in her favor, however, is that she has become a fundraising juggernaut, having raised $1.7 million during the first quarter of 2024 alone.
As for the cringe-worthiness of the video, social media users seemed more focused on the outcome of next week’s election… here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
