‘I’m about to cry!’ Elderly Tennessee man says he’s threatened by IRS for their costly mistake

Wilson Perry Kirby is at his wits’ end, explaining that the IRS is threatening to seize his Tennessee farm.

According to the 76-year-old farmer, the IRS mistakenly sent him a $20,000 refund back in 2022 and is now charging him interest on the money, even though he immediately tried to return it — the interest is at $4,300 and growing, and the IRS is withholding his 2025 tax refund.

“I’ve tried the president, governor, mayor. They don’t mind asking you to vote for them, but when you need help you can’t get ahold of nobody,” Kirby said.

The IRS is reportedly even threatening to seize his farm, reducing Kirby to tears over the snafu, “I’ve cried… I’m about to cry now!”

Country music star John Rich caught wind of Kirby’s plight and declared on X, “Nobody is taking Mr Kirby’s farm. This is about to get HANDLED.”

Rich insisted Kirby is not paying the interest either, saying he has senators looking into it: “We’re going to figure it out… but rest assured, Mr. Kirby’s farm ain’t going anywhere!”

On that note, Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.) posted on X that he has directed his office “to look into this and offer our assistance.”

And while Kirby may find relief here, how many other Americans are facing a similar situation without all the fanfare? One social media user suggested the solution is to ban the IRS — a cry you’ll never hear from the left as they push to ban ICE.

Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
