James Woods slams Musk’s reported choice of new Twitter CEO: ‘That didn’t take long. #ByeByeTwitter’

Actor James Woods was extremely disappointed in Elon Musk allegedly choosing World Economic Forum executive chair and NBCUniversal’s head of advertising Linda Yaccarino as Twitter CEO, making it clear he feels the newfound freedom on the social media platform is about to end.

“Excited to announce that I’ve hired a new CEO for X/Twitter. She will be starting in ~6 weeks! My role will transition to being exec chair & CTO, overseeing product, software & sysops,” Musk tweeted on Thursday.

As word leaked out that the new CEO could possibly be Yaccarino, Woods could not contain his upset over the development.

“And now the rumor is that a WEF person will take over control of Twitter. That didn’t take long. #ByeByeTwitter,” he tweeted.

Woods followed that up with a screenshot of Yaccarino’s LinkedIn profile, tweeting, “Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. I wonder how they got to him? #ShadowBanning.”

The Wall Street Journal broke the story that Yaccarino was most likely to be Musk’s pick to head Twitter, citing people familiar with negotiations for the position.

The media outlet reported, “Ms. Yaccarino, chairman of global advertising and partnerships at NBCU, has been with NBCU for more than a decade, where she has been an industry advocate for finding better ways to measure the effectiveness of advertising. As head of NBCU’s advertising sales, she was key in the launch of the company’s ad-supported Peacock streaming service.”

She was with Turner Entertainment for 19 years and has been credited with dragging the network’s ad sales operation into the digital future. She has also been the executive chair of the World Economic Forum since 2019, a position she reportedly still holds, as well as being an executive board member for the Ad Council.

If chosen as CEO, she looks to be another step Musk is taking to ensure Twitter becomes a profitable venture. He allegedly chose her after taking a poll on whether he should step down as CEO. The poll voted that he should and he vowed he would find a new CEO. He has been good to his word, although many now fear his choice will once again make the social media platform a censored, liberal haven.

“I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job!” Musk tweeted in December 2022. “After that, I will just run the software and servers teams.”

“Ms. Yaccarino, who oversees roughly $13 billion in annual ad revenue, is well-known for her tight relationship with marketers and ad agencies. Ms. Yaccarino has a reputation for hard-nosed negotiating tactics, and media buyers have described her as the ‘velvet hammer,'” the Wall Street Journal reported.

“She’s tough as f***ing nails and she’s always wanted this job,” a former colleague said referring to Yaccarino’s enthusiasm to helm Twitter, according to The Verge. “It’s perfect.”

In April, Yaccarino conducted an interview with Musk at a conference in Miami Beach, Fla. She asked him about his vision for Twitter and pressed him on his own tweets.

“Elon has committed to being accessible to everyone for continual feedback,” Yaccarino said during the interview. “If freedom of speech, as he says, is the bedrock of this country, I’m not sure there’s anyone in this room who could disagree with that.”

Following Woods’ response to Yaccarino possibly getting the tap for CEO of Twitter, others chimed in with their opinion on it:
