Jen Psaki gets a plum promotion at MSNBC

Jen Psaki, who served as President Joe Biden’s press secretary before becoming an analyst on MSNBC, is getting her own show.

That’s according to The New York Times, which cited the “Biden-friendly network” to say that Psaki was getting her own weekly show on Sundays at noon. The promotion coming after MSNBC rewarded Symone Sanders, the former “chief spokesperson and senior advisor” for Vice President Kamala Harris, with a weekend show.

The show is expected to mix policy and political discussions, along with less serious features like human-interest profiles of politicians, celebrities and athletes. In addition, Psaki will host a show on the streaming network Peacock, and write a regular column for MSNBC’s email newsletter.

“I am not going on television to be a mouthpiece,” Psaki told the newspaper. “I’m very conscious of the fact that people know who I am because I was standing behind a podium speaking on behalf of Joe Biden.”

To hear Psaki tell it, she will be right down the middle.

“I am not going to gratuitously attack him, nor am I going to gratuitously applaud him.,” she said of Biden. “If he deserves applause, I will applaud him. If he deserves critique, I will critique him.”

But don’t get your hopes up for a fair and balanced Jen Psaki, given who her tutors are.

“Rachel Maddow is teaching her to use a TelePrompTer, so far with mixed results. Mika Brzezinski offered tips on pinning down squirrelly guests. Nicolle Wallace invited her to editorial meetings and Andrea Mitchell is tutoring her on interviewing techniques,” the Times noted.
