It appears that First Lady Jill Biden is going to have some of her duties passed to Vice President Kamala Harris’s husband.
Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff is now scheduled to take Jill Biden’s place at two events where she had been scheduled to speak. The first was an election fundraiser hosted by former late-night host David Letterman in Vineyard Haven next Tuesday. Following President Joe Biden’s decision to remove himself from the presidential race, it makes sense that Emhoff would be speaking in support of his wife, who has replaced Biden on the ticket.
The second event is in Yarmouth, Maine on July 31, the day after the Letterman fundraiser. Reports also indicate that the newly formed Harris campaign is trying to reschedule some other events that the former Biden campaign had made arrangements for, further cementing the vice president as the Democratic Party’s presumptive nominee.
This report comes as Biden addressed the nation about his decision to step away from the race, characterizing it as a “defense of democracy.” He is also being accused of using the Oval Office to deliver a campaign speech in support of Kamala, quoting founding Father Benjamin Franklin while doing so.
“America is going to have to choose between moving forward or backward, between hope and hate, between unity and division,” he mumbled at one point.
“When Ben Franklin was asked, as he emerged from the convention going on, whether the founders have given America a monarchy or a republic, Franklin’s response was: ‘A republic, if you can keep it,'” Biden said. “A republic, if you can keep it. Whether we keep our republic is now in your hands.”
“Crooked Joe Biden’s Oval Office speech was barely understandable, and sooo bad!” former President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social in response to the speech.
“Crooked Joe Biden and lying Kamala Harris are a great embarrassment to America – there has never been a time like this,” he said in another post.
