Judge Arthur Engoron took issue with former President Donald Trump’s lawyers in court on Thursday telling Assistant Attorney General Andy Amer he should “check the internet” because “Vladimir Putin has some openings.”
Trump’s lawyer Christopher Kise commented while arguing against the state’s bid to block four Trump witnesses in his New York fraud trial, prompting the judge to say the remark was “totally uncalled for, totally incorrect.”
“I suggest that Mr. Amer check the internet. Vladimir Putin has some openings. That’s where he belongs… They don’t want you to hear evidence,” Kise said, according to Courthouse News.
Andrew Amer of the AG’s office is arguing to exclude these experts right now.

“Kise walked back that statement slightly, complaining that he’s been the target of ad hominem and shouldn’t have done that,” Adam Klasfeld, senior legal correspondent for The Messenger, reported.

While Kise promised to “refrain from further pejoratives,” he argued that the public is entitled to hear from all of the defense’s witnesses, according to the reporter, stating, “The world is watching.”
Amer countered by saying the state “isn’t trying to block the defense’s case, only four witnesses whose testimony became irrelevant from the judge’s pre-trial ruling,” Klasfeld added.
After breaking for lunch, Kise returned with hat in hand to offer an apology — which was accepted by the prosecuting attorney..
“When you’re right, you’re right. […] I want to apologize on the record,” the attorney said.
Justice Engoron says it would be prudent to let the witnesses in:
“I don’t want a retrial of this case. I don’t want to be reversed.”
He adds later:
“I’m going to allow the testimony without prejudice to objecting to anything that may be irrelevant.”

Justice Engoron ruled that he would let the witnesses in, stressing that he didn’t want a retrial.
“I don’t want to be reversed,” Engoran said, adding later, “I’m going to allow the testimony without prejudice to objecting to anything that may be irrelevant.”
