A federal judge dismissed a DOJ lawsuit against California seeking to protect females in women’s sports.

U.S. District Judge Cynthia Valenzuela shut down the DOJ’s case on Monday, prompting a swift response from the Trump administration, stating it is reviewing an appeal.

“We are disappointed by the Court’s order and remain committed to enforcing President Trump’s agenda of preventing boys from playing in girls’ sports,” a DOJ spokesperson stated following the decision, Fox News reported.

Valenzuela based her decision on “administrative funding rules,” ignoring the purpose of the lawsuit, which is to keep biological males out of female sports.

The feds failed to give California sufficient prior notice before “threatening to pull $44 billion in education funds,” Valenzuela found, according to Fox.

The controversy over biological males competing in girls’ sports heated up in California after AB Hernandez, a trans athlete, dominated in 2025 and 2026 CIF State Track & Field Championships. Hernandez “won” four state titles, prompting CIF “to create duplicate medals for female athletes pushed down the podium,” Fox reported.
