ABC News allowed Vice President Kamala Harris to skirt one of the established rules in her debate against former President Donald Trump — no risers for height adjustments behind the lectern.
If the 5’4″ Democratic candidate cannot be lifted up, bring down the mountain that a standard lectern represents to her. And that’s just what occurred, as the lectern Harris stood behind was substantially shorter than the lectern a 6’3″ Trump used. A side-by-side screenshot of the two candidates suggests equal height, even though a wide shot of the stage makes it appear that a child’s lectern was in use.
The ploy of a miniature lectern, which many erroneously refer to as a podium, was impossible to miss, so it’s not clear if there was any gain here for Harris:
NEW: Kamala Harris will have a miniature podium during tonight’s debate on ABC against Donald Trump.
The move was requested by Harris’ team who is afraid she will look tiny compared to Trump.

At the same time, the New York Times found an even more creative approach to present the candidates on an even keel, suggesting that the Democratic nominee had “tall energy.”
“Kamala Harris is modest in stature, but is considered by some to have tall energy,” the paper bellowed.
It’s almost comical until you realize that the media industry is perfectly willing to beclown itself in an ongoing effort to steal yet another election involving Donald Trump.

That was certainly the take offered by podcast queen Megyn Kelly, who was furious over the bias against Trump on display by the ABC News moderators.
“I’m angry, I’m angry at them — at ABC, at my industry, [which] I want nothing to do with. They’re trying to steal this election. They’re openly working to sink him,” she said on a special airing Tuesday night.
There was plenty of ridicule over the efforts being made to assist Kamala Harris, who only had to pass the low bar of not making herself look like an idiot.
Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on the social media platform X:
Trump should come out early and stand at Kamala’s podium.

I love how Joe Biden and Kamala have to use the Playskool version of everything

Wait, her podium will be miniature to make her look bigger.. isn’t that considered a prop and props are not allowed?

WTF is Tall Energy?
— Whatever (@MIFrenchieMom) September 10, 2024
instead ABC is framing her in split screen larger and taller than Trump

She identifies as 5’11”. Do not question Her Truth, bigot.

“Tall Energy?” What the hell even is this, aside from how did it make it into a subhead as some kind of descriptor we’re all supposed to appreciate?

I thought she was “brat?” Now she’s Tall Energy?

So instead ABC built her a smaller podium.
What concession was Trump afforded?
I’m guessing none because ABC is in the tank for Kamala.
