Kash Patel threatens suit, demands retraction from MSNBC for guest smearing him with lies

Kash Patel isn’t going to just sit back and allow himself to be smeared by the media and bad actors who have declared war on President-elect Donald J. Trump’s key nominees.

In a letter to MSNBC guest Olivia Troye, Patel’s lawyer threatened to sue the pants off of the former Mike Pence aide if she didn’t retract comments made on-air about the FBI director nominee.

Troye has endeared herself to leftists with her vicious attacks on Trump and her former colleagues and during a recent appearance on racist host Joy Reid’s show, she slimed Patel as a “delusional liar” and claimed that he put “the lives of Navy SEALs at risk in an operation when it came to Nigeria.”

“Kash Patel is a delusional liar,” Troye said. “Let me just be very clear about that. And he would lie about intelligence. He would like about making things up on operations. I think Mark Esper has talked about that as well, where he put the lives of Navy Seals at risk in an operation when it came to Nigeria. … At some point, I realized I needed to check Kash’s work to make sure that I wasn’t misinforming Mike Pence by relying on his word. So, I had to go around him. And this is a guy who openly has contempt for people in national security – for people, especially at DOJ and the FBI.”

Her smears could soon have serious legal consequences.

“Litigation will be filed against you if you fail to publicly retract defamatory statements you made about Mr. Patel on MSNBC on December 2, 2024,” read a letter from attorney Jesse R. Binnall of the Washington, D.C.-based Binnall Law Group which represents the FBI nominee.

The letter from Patel’s lawyer called her criticism of him a “complete fabrication” and “At no point did Mr. Patel ever lie about national intelligence, place Navy Seals at risk, or misinform the Vice President.”

Troye was accused of having “knowledge of the falsity of this smear” and bringing it up “with the malicious intent of degrading his character and of cynical self-promotion.”

The letter demanded that she publicly retract her inflammatory remarks on X within five days of its receipt.

“Unless this step is taken, Mr. Patel will take swift legal action to uphold his rights and reputation,” the letter said.

A defiant Troye posted a copy of the letter to X.

“Today, Kash Patel sent a letter to my counsel @MarkSZaidEsq – threatening legal action & demanding that I retract my comments on MSNBC about his unfitness to serve as FBI Director. This aligns with his threats against the media & political opponents, revealing how he might conduct himself if confirmed in the role. I stand by my statements—my priority remains the safety & security of the American people. I am not the only one who has expressed concerns about him. So why me? And so it begins,” she wrote.
