Katie Porter sinks like a rock in bid to replace Newsom as CA governor

California gubernatorial hopeful Katie Porter is sinking like a rock in her bid to replace term-limited Governor Gavin Newsom, a sign that the former Democrat congresswoman may be too crazy for even Golden State voters.

According to a new poll from Emerson College, Porter has dropped to 11 percent in what is a wide-open field for the 2026 primary election, one that is missing the one name with the star power and a national media following: Kamala Harris.

Porter now has competition in Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), who many regard as a conspiracy-spewing crank and walking national security threat who famously had pillow talk with a female Chinese government spy.

Swalwell’s entry into the race further splits the Democratic vote in the non-partisan primary that will take place June 2, 2026, with the top two candidates advancing to the general election on November 3, 2026.

“Upon entering the race, Swalwell splits the Democratic vote with Porter, 20% supporting Swalwell and 17% Porter,” Emerson College Polling executive director Spencer Kimball said in a statement, according to the New York Post. “Republican voters are split between Bianco and Hilton, at 33% and 30%, while a plurality of independents, 45%, are undecided.”

Billionaire climate cult activist Tom Steyer is also running as a Democrat although he is polling in the low single digits.

With Harris declining to enter a race that she likely would have easily run away with, Porter initially shot to the top of polls to succeed Newsom who has presided over the steep decline of the state which has squandered billions of dollars on legal challenges to President Donald J. Trump amid financial woes, is wracked by crime and filling up with illegal aliens who have been attracted by generous welfare programs paid for by productive citizens.

Despite her documented history of abuse involving her ex-husband, on whose head she allegedly once dumped a bowl of steaming hot potatoes, Porter seemed to have the inside track until footage of her melting down during a CBS News interview after being asked a question about Trump went viral.

Other resurfaced videos also painted a picture of the portly ex-lawmaker as an unstable loose cannon, including one of her dropping f-bombs on a staffer.

When she was still in Congress, Porter showed up to work one day dressed up as Bat Girl – and it wasn’t Halloween.

Her alleged treatment of her former spouse made headlines and again drew attention after she declared her candidacy.

In divorce papers, Matthew Hoffman who was at the time a stay-at-home dad for the couple’s three kids stated that Porter “frequently said things like ‘you f***ing idiot!’ and ‘you’re f***ing incompetent.’ ‘She would not let me have a cell phone because she said, ‘you’re too f***ing dumb to operate it,” he said, according to the Daily Mail.

“This house is a mess! You f***ing slob! You’re incompetent! What the f*** do you do all day!’” Porter allegedly shouted with their children in the living room, picking up dishes and saying, “Look how f***ing dirty this is.”

Hoffman also recalled a 2006 incident when his volatile wife stormed into the kitchen as he was cooking mashed potatoes for dinner. “As their oldest child Luke sat in the highchair, Porter looked at the potatoes in a ceramic bowl and yelled ‘Can’t you read the f***ing instructions!’”

“She then took the ceramic bowl of steaming hot potatoes and dumped it on my head, burning my scalp,” he said, the outlet reported.

Californians may understandably be hesitant to vote for such a notoriously hot-headed tyrant who could be even worse for the state than Newsom.
