Kennedy-connected ex-Dem explains why formerly lefty moms are leaving Dem Party in droves

Reverberating effects of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s exit from the 2024 presidential race are being seen with “lefty” moms who are now “flocking” to support former President Donald Trump.

Zen Honeycutt, founder and executive director of Moms Across America, an organization that touts Kennedy as an advisor, spoke with Mother Jones magazine about the shift in the political leanings of its members.

“A decade ago, the group attracted a predominantly left-leaning audience who were concerned mostly about toxins in food and what they saw as the dangerous unknowns of genetically modified organisms. But now, the group appeals to many Independents and Republicans who worry more about government overreach,” the article stated.

“Moms haven’t drifted right, so much as the so-called ‘left’ has abandoned them,” Kennedy wrote in a post on X promoting the piece.

“Back in the day, the left sought to protect consumers from corporate poisoning of the food supply. The left was the champion of the people. Today it is in lockstep with corporate medicine, corporate food, corporate everything,” he added.

After Kennedy suspended his White House bid, the former Democrat endorsed Trump and appeared together with the GOP nominee at a rally to a rousing welcome. Trump has taken on some of Kennedy’s agenda items, including the plans for a panel that would focus on “the decades-long increase in chronic health problems, including autoimmune disorders, autism, obesity, infertility, and many more.”

Kennedy has been named as part of the Trump transition team, but if appointed to any position in a Trump administration, he is “well-positioned to influence policies and programs that he’d champion,” Mother Jones noted.

While she “used to be a staunch Democrat,” Honeycutt reportedly grew disillusioned with what she saw as government overreach in school vaccine mandates. She related that she heard from “thousands and thousands” of other parents who were also struggling with “the fascism of the Democratic Party.”

She related that many former Democrats she has spoken with “have found in the Independent Party or the Republican Party a home they can connect with around their personal health freedoms.”

The exits from the Democrat Party, in Honeycutt’s view, were partly due to concerns about children’s health in schools that were “becoming vaccine administration centers.” There was also pushback as many did not want their kids to be “indoctrinated with education from public schools that influence their sexual identity,” she wrote in a follow-up email to Mother Jones.

Honeycutt told the outlet that Vice President Kamala Harris has failed to address issues that Moms Across America cares about.

“I have not heard her speak about pesticides or regenerative organic agriculture or children’s chronic illness,” she said. “There’s a lot of funding that’s going towards climate change issues that is questionable, and it could be simply going towards making these corporations wealthier.”

“I have found to my surprise that many people on the Trump team, including President Trump himself, care about the same environmental issues I do,” Kennedy wrote on X last month.

“I’m very hopeful that if Kennedy gets any type of position in the future administration, that he will actually make changes,” Honeycutt said.

“Kennedy is one of the only ones who has brought it to the forefront,” she said about vaccine regulations. “The fact that Trump is willing to listen to him about that makes a huge difference for a lot of voters.”
