Musician Kid Rock pumped the brakes on comedian Bill Maher’s prediction that Republicans will experience a “thumping” in the upcoming midterm elections.
The rocker, whose real name is Robert James Ritchie, joined “Real Time with Bill Maher,” where he unapologetically delivered reality check after reality check to the liberal host and his audience.
At one point, Maher emphasized his thoughts about the GOP getting decimated at the polls on Tuesday, November 3.
“I don’t trust the polls.”
Kid Rock steps in to temper Bill Maher’s expectations after Maher predicted a “historic thumping” of the Republican Party in the midterms.
Rock warned Maher that the media doesn’t decide elections…and that voters aren’t necessarily seeing the same picture of President Trump accomplishments that’s presented on television.
MAHER: “I’ve heard a lot recently that said, oh no, let’s not count our chickens…well, I’m counting my chickens.”
Rock let Maher finish before jumping in with a little reminder of what happened in 2016.
ROCK: “I can look at the first election with Hillary Clinton. I remember going to bed that night, I’m like, there’s no way my guy can win. There’s no way.”
“I was convinced from the media it couldn’t happen.”
“Think about your favorite sports team like you just woke up every day and you saw the Mets lost. They never told you that they won.”
Rock pointed to the border and the Iran war, making the case that the long-term consequences of the administration’s decisions remain to be seen.
“Will this be good for our country in ten years? You know, time’s going to be the ultimate determiner.”

“I’m sticking with mine, that this will be a historic thumping of the Republican Party,” he said. “I’ve heard a lot recently that said, oh no, let’s not count our chickens…well, I’m counting my chickens.”
“People are very, very mad at the Republican Party, at the Trump presidency. This is their way to express it,” Maher added.
Ritchie tempered the host’s confidence with a look back at 2016, when businessman Donald Trump defeated Democratic former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, despite assurances from talking heads and polls that she was invincible.
“I can look at the first election with Hillary Clinton. I remember going to bed that night, I’m like, there’s no way my guy can win. There’s no way,” the 55-year-old singer recalled. “I was convinced from the media it couldn’t happen.”
He pointed to the reality of the biased media, noting that the only way to learn of President Trump’s “wins” is “when he tells you about them.”
“Think about your favorite sports team, like you just woke up every day and you saw the Mets lost. They never told you that they won,” he continued. “Do we ever hear anything about the border? We can talk about the Iran war all we want, and people don’t have to like it. They can be for it.”
Ritchie emphasized that “we do not know how this is going to play out.”
“Will this be good for our country in ten years? You know, time’s going to be the ultimate determiner,” he added. “So, I don’t trust the polls…I don’t think it’s going to be a shellacking. And if it’s not, that’s kind of a win.”
