The White House planted its feet Monday with a definitive statement on President Joe Biden’s alleged influence-peddling, just in time for the House Speaker to intimate his next moves amidst mounting GOP pressure to impeach.
Though rarely polished, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has oft-endeavored to avoid concrete declarations pertaining to the president’s alleged ties to his son Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings. On Monday, she deviated from the norm with an adamant “never” when pressed about Biden’s own repeated denials.
“Chairman James Comer today says that the Oversight Committee…has evidence that the president in the past communicated directly with foreign business associates of his son, Hunter Biden, many times,” a reporter asked during the White House press briefing. “Curious if the White House and the president still stand behind his comment that he’s never been involved and has never even spoken to his son about his business.”
“So, I’ve been — I’ve been asked this question a million times,” Jean-Pierre began. “The answer is not going to change. The answer remains the same: The president ha- — was never in business with his son. I just don’t have anything else to add.”
The claim from the press secretary comes a week ahead of scheduled testimony from known Hunter Biden business partner, Devon Archer, who is expected to detail calls that included the “Big Guy,” then-Vice President Joe Biden, on speakerphone as foreign business deals were made.
Speaking with the New York Post Monday, Indiana Rep. Jim Banks was one of a number of vocal Republicans pushing for the commencement of the impeachment process of the president.
“House Republicans should initiate impeachment proceedings against President Biden,” the congressman said.
“Joe Biden was trading his personal influence to enrich himself and his family and must be held accountable for selling out America,” Banks added to the Post.
Later Monday, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) joined Fox News host Sean Hannity and revealed that they are, in fact, preparing to impeach Biden.
“When President Biden was running for office, he told the American public that he’s never talked about business. He said his family has never received a dollar from China, which we now prove is not true,” the speaker said of the whistleblower testimony that has further alleged criminal bribery.

“We’ve only followed where the information has taken us. But Hannity, this is rising to the level of impeachment inquiry, which provides Congress the strongest power to get the rest of the knowledge and information needed,” McCarthy specified. “Because this president has also used something we have not seen since Richard Nixon — use the weaponization of government to benefit his family and deny Congress the ability to have the oversight.”
As noted by the California lawmaker, Biden himself has been known to fervently deny any connection to his son’s business and a clip from him at a 2019 campaign event has resurfaced where he was confronted over “selling access” to the White House.
“You’re a damn liar, man. That’s not true. And no one has ever said that,” Biden railed at the retired farmer confronting him with the allegations.

“You said I set up my son to work for an oil company, isn’t that what you said? Get your words straight, Jack!” Biden later raged before calling the citizen “too old” to vote for him.
Despite those claims, Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson told the Post, “We’ve known that President Biden lied about not discussing Hunter’s overseas business dealings. It certainly wouldn’t surprise me to learn he was far more involved.”
“I hope House investigators will ask Devon Archer what he discussed with then-VP Biden in the White House on April 16, 2014, five days before Biden traveled to Ukraine and six days before Archer joined the Board of Burisma. The dates of these events are not coincidences.”
