Lady Gaga has managed to tick off a big sector of her fanbase by doing an ad for Pfizer’s Nurtec ODT migraine treatment while performing onstage with the drug branding overlaid as critics accused her of selling out to Big Pharma and killing her fans.
She is the latest celebrity to partner with Pfizer in ad campaigns.
“Ever since childhood, I’ve dealt with migraine pain. When I tried Nurtec® ODT (rimegepant) 75 mg for the first time, I’ll never forget wishing I had found it sooner. That’s why I’m proud to partner with Nurtec ODT. We’re in this together. If you’re ready to speak to a doctor, ask about Nurtec ODT today. #MHAM,” she captioned an Instagram post on June 13.
The National Institutes of Health describes migraines as a type of headache with recurrent attacks of moderate to severe throbbing and pulsating pain on one side of the head.

Big Pharma is ruining this country. It has swallowed up both sides of politics, the media, the food supply, the entertainment industry & our country is suffering. pic.twitter.com/w9TAnI9dBj

Khloé Kardashian has also appeared in a number of Nurtec ODT commercials. Now the brand seems to have moved on to Lady Gaga. The singing star was diagnosed with migraines when she was 14 years old.
“My experience with migraines was debilitating. I would be in bed for days with tremendous pain in my head, behind my eyes, and all throughout my face,” she told Pfizer. “I couldn’t read or have any lights on, and I needed to be alone in a quiet room for hours that could lead to days until the pain subsided.”
In the ad are two slides with safety information concerning the drug. It is “already the #1 prescribed migraine medicine in its class in the United States,” according to Nick Lagunowich, who is the global president of emerging markets at Pfizer.
However, the pharmaceutical giant was forced to recall over 4.2 million units of the Nurtec 75-milligram tablets on March 16, 2023, because the packaging wasn’t child-resistant and evidently posed a poison risk.
Not only did Lady Gaga push the drug on Instagram, she also narrated a Nurtec ODT commercial where she performed onstage during her 2022 “Chromatica Ball” world tour.

“I know what it’s like to perform through pain. If you’re like me, one of the millions suffering from pain caused by migraine, Nurtec ODT might help. It’s the only medication that can treat a migraine when it strikes and prevent migraine attacks,” she told viewers in the ad.
Lady Gaga’s fans seemed shocked that she would be promoting Pfizer.
One person on Instagram hammered her for it, “Keep pushin’ big pharma.. keep killing your fans.”
Angela Lukin, who is the global primary care and US president of Pfizer, justified the company’s use of Lady Gaga in a statement, “Lady Gaga’s story is a powerful reminder of how significantly migraine affects the lives of so many people. We believe that this collaboration will help raise awareness of this often ‘silent’ disease and inspire those living with migraine to have conversations with their health-care providers about the best way to manage their condition.”
Twitter sounded off for and against Lady Gaga over the ad:

Crazy how hypocritical this fandom is after recognizing the chronic pains Gaga suffers from the narrative of Chromatica and crucifying her for a migraine pill in the absence of their concert film. https://t.co/rm9VwZGfDT

Now that @ladygaga has advertised migraine medication for vast number$ I’m expecting @Madonna to start advertising Viagra for @Pfizer as it’s patent has run out & its needs a star in a certain age group to get oldies to buy its brand. I can’t even… WTF pic.twitter.com/Io1pMSQhJV
