Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) never disappoints when it comes to unhinged responses and she was joined this time by a number of Christian-bashing Democrats who attacked a group called “He Gets Us” that reportedly spent $20 million on two Super Bowl ads that she claims “make fascism look benign.”
The ads depicted Jesus as someone with empathy for those of differing views and for those that are tired of the divisiveness of politics.
“Something tells me Jesus would *not* spend millions of dollars on Super Bowl ads to make fascism look benign,” Ocasio-Cortez viciously tweeted.
Other leftists joined Ocasio-Cortez and heaped hatred on Christians for having the nerve to run Super Bowl ads.
When you get really mad at the "don't hate people" ad. https://t.co/N9YFzUvZDo

With the money the “He Gets Us” people spent on their right-wing Jesus ads, they could permanently house 1,563 people experiencing homelessness.

If Jesus were alive today, He'd say "hey don't spend all of those millions of dollars to run a Super Bowl ad about me. Instead, use that money to feed the poor and house the unhoused."
Sure, He gets Us.
But do we get Him?— BrooklynDad_Defiant!☮️ (@mmpadellan) February 13, 2023
Just FYI, the same group that is financing the “He Gets Us” Jesus ads is also helping finance the lawsuit seeking to ban abortion medication nationwide

HATE AT THE SUPER BOWL. The $100 million Super Bowl ads about Jesus come from a group, “He Gets Us;” note well, this group donated $50 million to anti-LGBTQ hate groups & against choice; Hobby Lobby Founder Green said, Jesus ”gets us, … He loves (sic) who we hate.“ pic.twitter.com/ICaHhb87S8

I’m Agnostic, but, if I was going to change any commercial, I’d have the deep voice of some well known democrat saying “Jesus. He gets US, but he’s confused as hell about THEM!” as they pointed to a clip of MAGA members bashing out US Capital Windows committing crimes…they still… https://t.co/NDToFk4qSA

The family behind Hobby Lobby partially funded the advertising campaign, according to Fox News. They were joined by Christian groups and anonymous donors. The ads are an effort to spread the message of Jesus to LGBTQ+ people and other communities.
One commercial shows a slideshow of black-and-white images of children of different races doing various things for one another and for adults. It shows their innocence and the ad proclaims, “Jesus didn’t want us to act like adults.”
The other one also displays black-and-white images that show fights between Americans over racial justice, pandemic lockdowns, and politics. The ad contends, “Jesus loved the people we hate.”
The message, “He gets us. All of us,” appeared at the end of both ads.

The “He Gets Us” campaign launched in March 2022. It plans to spend $2 billion over several years to get the message about God and the Christian faith out. The ads give a link to viewers that sends them to its website which includes Bible readings, chats with real people about religion, and information about Jesus.
The site claims the campaign is “not ‘left’ or ‘right’ or a political organization of any kind. We’re also not affiliated with any particular church or denomination. We simply want everyone to understand the authentic Jesus as he’s depicted in the Bible — the Jesus of radical forgiveness, compassion, and love.”
The pair of ads aired during Sunday’s Super Bowl matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. The Chiefs won in the end 38 to 35 following a game-winning field goal by Harrison Butker.
Campaign spokesperson Jason Vanderground told CNN that the group wanted to air Super Bowl ads because the big game “fits with our target audience really well.”
“We’re trying to get the message across to people who are spiritually open, but skeptical,” he stated. “We think Jesus is a big deal and we want to make a big deal out of it. What better way to do that than to put him in the biggest cultural moment that we have the entire year?”
“The debate over LGBTQ+ issues is a great example of how the real Jesus too often gets lost, overlooked, or distorted in debates over political and social issues,” Vanderground noted. “Our focus is on helping people see and consider Jesus as he is shown in the Bible … He gets us and he loves us, and that includes people on all sides of these issues.”
Ocasio-Cortez and Dems who attacked the two ads were hammered on Twitter:
Something tells me you have no idea what the word fascism actually means.

Something tells me Jesus would take issue with at least some of the things you have said, done, and vote for/against. https://t.co/5P307So60k

Love your enemy equates to Fascism? . You’re brilliant!

It’s sad to see when you find people spreading the word of god and you have to find some way to be divisive about it. We need God back in this country and you hate that it’s the one thing can could bring us all together in an instant.

Are you a theologian now? What can you not do?
— Aaron Ginn (@aginnt) February 13, 2023
Did I misread the ad? I took away that we should at least try and stop hating each other and take a step back. What is wrong with that message regardless of who paid for it?
