Leftists clash with federal agents during raid on Minneapolis taco eatery

An angry mob of leftists clashed with federal agents during a Tuesday raid on a taqueria in Minneapolis, MN, after rumors of an impending Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation were spread online.

However, the action was not one to round up illegal aliens, but rather the execution of a criminal search warrant in a human trafficking, drug, and money laundering investigation carried out at the Las Cuatro Milpas restaurant located in South Minneapolis.

When the uniformed officers rolled up on the Latino eatery, they were greeted by a horde of screaming protesters who obstructed them and, in some cases, pelted the agents with thrown objects.

“It just instantly got violent, and people were trying to stop them,” witness Brandon Bazile told WCCO. “I don’t think they realized the community would respond so quick and kind of create a human barrier, so you can kind of see them strategizing a plan to get people out.”

“The crowd moved whatever they could in the path of officers and deputies as they escorted federal agents down Lake Street. Some threw garbage cans, and some even threw tires. WCCO’s crew at the scene saw pop bottles and bricks hurled at law enforcement, and some responded with force,” the outlet reported.

Video and images posted to social media show the tense situation, which escalated rapidly but fortunately didn’t spin completely out of control.

The situation grew so volatile that local law enforcement was dispatched to assist with crowd management. Minneapolis’s Democratic Mayor Jacob Frey assured residents that the MPD was only involved in crowd control and not a part of any action related to immigration enforcement.

“The Minneapolis Police Department’s only role was assisting with crowd control and keeping the community safe, as a large number of residents and bystanders had gathered at the scene. They have not been involved in anything related to immigration enforcement,” Frey said in a statement.

“Here’s what we know: MPD was NOT involved in any immigration enforcement activities today, nor were we given advance notice of any such operation. Any claims to the contrary are false,” the department said in a post to X.

And as is often the case in the recent spate of mob actions against ICE and other federal law enforcement officers, local politicians stirred the pot, with one left-wing Minneapolis City Council member accusing authorities of lying.

“They tried to lie about an ICE presence. MPD assisted with closing off the area. This is completely wrong. Hennepin County Sheriffs have been helping, too,” Councilman Jason Chavez claimed in a post to X.

“The Minneapolis police should not be working with federal agents,” WCCO quotes activist Erika Zurwoski of the Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee. “We are a sanctuary city, the community will not allow it.”

Illegal alien advocacy organizations reacted to the incident with fear-mongering statements that will only deepen leftist anger and foment distrust of federal law enforcement authorities.

“The amount of presence they showed today on Lake Street… it was a show of power,” said Luis Arguenta of Unidos Minnesota.

“They’re trying to scare communities. This affects businesses, this affects our neighbors. It’s a trauma that our community doesn’t need. People are welcome in Minneapolis when they show up like that, fully militarized, that’s not a good sign for our community,” Miguel Hernandez of the Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee said. “A lot of people’s doors are locked. Businesses are locking up because they’re afraid — what are they looking for? Why are they here? They don’t know.”

On its website, Hernandez’s organization bills itself as seeing “the U.S. immigration system and criminal justice system as fundamentally unjust, racist, and white supremacist.”

“Federal investigators conducted a groundbreaking criminal operation today — Minnesota’s first under the Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF) umbrella — marking a new chapter in how we confront complex, multidimensional threats. From drug smuggling to criminal labor trafficking, this operation showcases the breadth of our collective missions and the strength of a united front,” said Jamie Holt, acting special agent in charge of Homeland Security investigations in Minnesota and the Dakotas.
