Almost as if they can’t help themselves, it is in times of crisis that the liberal media lets us know who they are — there is a common phrase on the right that “you can’t hate the media enough,” and some of the reporting on the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump lends credence to that assertion.
By the grace of God, Trump survived the attempt on his life — the Secret Service’s contributions that fateful day will be debated for a long time to come — but there was a fatality in Butler, Pennsylvania, as well as two others critically wounded. When Trump first commented on the shooting, he was quick to express his condolences to these victims and their families. In a follow-up statement where Trump declared that he would “remain resilient in our Faith and Defiant in the face of Wickedness,” he added: “Our love goes out to the other victims and their families. We pray for the recovery of those who were wounded, and hold in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was so horribly killed.”
Trump also lent his stamp of approval to a GoFundMe campaign set up for the victims and their families, and it was here that Newsweek put a dastardly spin on events.
“Trump campaign launches GoFundMe after shooting,” blared a headline from the leftwing magazine that was posted on X.

The disinformation drew a fact-check from Community Notes: “The GoFundMe was only authorized by Trump, not launched by him, and is for the victims of the shooting, not for President Trump or his campaign.”
The GoFundMe page clearly stated: “President Donald Trump has authorized this account as a place for donations to the supporters and families wounded or killed in today’s brutal and horrific assassination attempt. All donations will be directed to these proud Americans as they grieve and recover. May God bless and unite our nation.”
On a positive note, the campaign has drawn $3.6 million toward a $1 million goal as of this writing.
The man killed Saturday has been identified as Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old former fire chief who died when he dove to protect his wife and two daughters when gunshots rang out.
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said Comperatore was an avid Trump supporter and a “girl dad” who went to church every Sunday and loved his family and community.
“Corey died a hero,” Shapiro said.
The other two victims were identified as David Dutch, 57, and James Copenhaver, 74. Both men are from Pennsylvania and they are reportedly in stable condition.
At a time when the media lectures us on civility and toning down our rhetoric, their actions certainly don’t match their words.
Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on the social media platform X:

For the families of people who got killed and wounded. Gee, if only there were a way that could have been avoided.

The GoFundMe was for the murdered fire chief and the others that were injured. You literally just have to click on a link to find that out. What is WRONG with you?
