Maher excoriates the woke left: ‘Freedom should be a liberal thing’

Comedian Bill Maher took a wrecking ball to the manipulative word games of progressives, so often creating division where there should be none, with a common sense breakdown on how “Woke and liberal are two different things.”

During his latest episode of the “Club Random with Bill Maher” podcast, the “Real Time” host was joined by billionaire Mark Cuban to discuss culture, economics, and sports during their more than hour-long conversation. At one point during the sit-down, Cuban opened the door for Maher to preemptively chide the left when the entrepreneur suggested red states are inherently better for business than blue states.

“I’d rather start a business in Dallas all day, every day. I will not in San Francisco,” Cuban explained which led the comedian to respond in all seriousness, “I know. Of course–or Florida.”

Addressing how that would be interpreted, Maher went on with distaste, “Again, the woke will cast this as some sort of two conservatives. No! We’re not conservatives. We’re not conservatives…You guys don’t get it. Woke and liberal are two different things.”

“They’re very often the f*cking opposite of each other,” he continued before arguing, “Freedom should be a liberal thing. The word is–that’s what libre means, free.”

As previously reported, Cuban had landed his own hits on progressive-run cities when he slammed the “pretentious as f*ck” Silicon Valley “tech bros” who had helped usher in the downfall of California following a question from Maher about whether “taxes and regulations” were the main reason not to live there.

“That’s a big part of it. Yeah. Just because, I mean, look what’s happened in San Francisco, I mean, an entire industry is getting pushed out,” the billionaire explained. “You know, the whole technology industry went from, ‘Well, it’s ok. This is growth, this is, you know, the new thing.’ And now, you know, it’s just about people sh*ttin’ on the street.”

Maher went on to address the generational nature of the problem as he said, “All my friends, at least the ones like on the coasts who are like our age…they all b*tch endlessly about their f*cking woke kids.”

“Again, these are liberal people. These are not people who are voting for Trump,” he reminded and further ripped into manipulative language games. “I’m a basic liberal, but they piss me off so much when they cop the attitude. Just don’t gaslight me. Don’t pretend. Don’t say things like ‘Racism has never been worse.’ Plainly, that’s not true.”

As has often been the case with Maher, suggestions that he might be on his way to being red-pilled were put to rest as the comedian asserted his own independent worldview and noted, “I’ve never been a guy who could play along with bullsh*t, whether it’s from the left or the right.”
