Comedian and “Real Time” host Bill Maher delivered some punchy campaign slogans for President Joe Biden in light of the week’s election results.
With abortion rights seeming to be the topic that drove Democrats to the polls and delivered unexpected Republican defeats in some districts, Maher suggested the president ride the wave of success with a rebrand by calling himself “Abortin’ Joe.”
In the opening monologue of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” on Friday, the host looked at the “good news/bad news” week for Democrats who had some election victories but also had to face a sobering poll that showed Biden trailing behind former President Donald Trump in five out of six key states.
“But there was, it was a good news, bad news week for the Democrats, bad news in the six battleground states. Trump is beating Biden in five out of six of them. And Biden’s support among nonwhite voters dropped 33 points. And Democrats cannot win with just white people,” Maher said.
“Okay. Although it hasn’t hurt Taylor Swift. But…,” he quipped.
“The good news for the Democrats, they do have kind of a kryptonite issue, abortion. America loves abortion. And even in the red states, seven out of this time, seven times it’s on the ballot. People are saying, no, read my lips, no new babies,” he went on.
