Clyburn blames ‘MAGA-leaning’ SCOTUS for black voters abandoning Biden, says they’ll come back in general election

U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) knows why black voters aren’t supporting President Joe Biden’s bid for reelection.

No, it’s not that Bidenomics sucks, or because crime is soaring, or because Joe Biden needs handlers to make sure he gets off a stage or down some stairs in one piece. And it definitely doesn’t have anything to do with the untold individuals on the terrorist watchlist who have crossed into the United States through our open borders.

No, according to Clyburn, black voters are, in ever-increasing numbers, supporting former President Donald Trump because of the “MAGA-leaning Supreme Court.”

Confronted with dismal new numbers from a recent New York Times-Siena College poll, Clyburn argued that the failure to renew the Voting Rights Act has resulted in “unfinished business” for Biden.

“The results show Mr. Biden losing to Mr. Trump, his likeliest Republican rival, by margins of four to 10 percentage points among registered voters in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada and Pennsylvania,” The Times reported. “Mr. Biden is ahead only in Wisconsin, by two percentage points, the poll found.”

“Black voters — long a bulwark for Democrats and for Mr. Biden — are now registering 22 percent support in these states for Mr. Trump, a level unseen in presidential politics for a Republican in modern times,” the poll revealed.

“Do you believe that Joe Biden is doing that poorly?” MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough asked Clyburn on “Morning Joe.”

“Absolutely not,” the lawmaker replied. “Let me tell you what you are seeing there. People are focusing on some of the unfinished business. Sure, I’m disappointed, as any other black person, that we have not been able to renew the Voting Rights Act, but we are going to show why.”

“Why haven’t we done it? Because this conservative, MAGA-leaning Supreme Court has desecrated the Voting Rights Act, and we have not been able to get the Republicans in the Congress to renew it,” he stated. “And so a lot of black people are disappointed that that has not gotten done.”

“A lot of black people” are also disappointed by the failure to renew the increased child tax credit, according to Clyburn.

“That is very important in the African-American community,” he said. “So when you ask the polling information, that’s what they give you. ‘No. I’m dissatisfied that we have not done these things.'”

“But when it comes to the general election and when we lay out what we’ve done and what we propose to do, and compare that to what the Republicans have done and what they are proposing to do, you’ll see Joe Biden get at least 92% of the African American vote in the general election,” Clyburn predicted. “That I am confident of.”

On X, a lot of people think Clyburn’s explanation is nonsense.

“Foolishness,” declared one user, “posing as sophistry-pretentious puffery…”
