A shakeup at CBS News will reportedly soon include members of the “60 Minutes” team as editor in chief Bari Weiss continues to make big changes to restore credibility to the organization.
According to the New York Post, the “bloodbath” at the network’s flagship is set to take place in June, citing a source with knowledge to report that the layoffs are “slated for this summer that could engulf some of the show’s top talent and producers.”
The “major shakeup” comes after CBS News recently cut 6 percent of its workforce last month and shut down its radio division after 99 years. The layoffs claimed the jobs of 60-70 employees.

“They’re doing another round in June, and ’60 Minutes’ people are on the list,” one dished to the paper. The Post’s sources said that Weiss wants “60 Minutes” to focus more on “scoops and hard-hitting investigative reporting” instead of the excessive “soft programming” of the season.
“60 Minutes is a powerhouse program, and the probing, serious high-quality journalism that is its hallmark is vital to CBS News. We’re immensely excited about its future,” a network spokesperson told the paper.
“Bari wants to make the show harder,” said another source quoted by the Post. “No one is talking about ‘60 Minutes’ on Monday morning.”
“She wants to put her stamp on ‘60 Minutes’ and how you do that is you either get rid of the top producer or the top correspondent,” the source said.
Weiss wasn’t a big fan of recent programming, including a segment with mentalist and author Oz Pearlman, who wowed correspondent Cecilia Vega with his mind-reading prowess by guessing the name of her third-grade teacher.
The program has also recently featured segments on research into dog-aging, the cost of handmade Swiss watches, and chess boxing, hardly the stuff of legendary newsman Mike Wallace.
One longtime CBS executive agreed that changes were needed and that “60 Minutes” needs to get back to featuring “harder reporting.”
“Bari Weiss is not wrong to overhaul the show,” the exec told the Post.
Once the gold standard in investigative journalism, the Sunday evening showcase has badly lost its way, devolving into silliness, tabloid fodder and outright propagandizing for the Democrats, with no example more glaring than the “doctored” interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris before the 2024 election, which was allegedly cleaned up to make the party’s candidate seem more coherent.
The Harris interview ended up getting the network sued by President Donald J. Trump, Harris’ opponent, who was rightfully outraged over what he alleged was election interference.
CBS News’ parent company, Paramount, agreed to settle with Trump for $16 million over the deceptively edited interview, a black eye for “60 Minutes” which it has yet to recover from.
Former CNN media personality Oliver Darcy reported on “Bari’s ‘60’ Blow Up Plan” on his Status website, which is behind a paywall.
According to Radar Online, which excerpts the piece, one source said that Weiss is going to “blow it up as soon as the season is over.”
