New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, the Muslim communist from Uganda who runs the largest city in America, was out selling his brand of socialism this week — ignoring the failures he has already had to deal with.
Asked to define socialism during an appearance on Theo Von’s podcast, Mamdani replied, “Socialism, to me, means that you will have whatever you need to live a dignified life, and that it is the government’s job to deliver on that.”
THEO VON: “Will you define socialism for us?”
MAMDANI: “Socialism, to me, means that you will have WHATEVER YOU NEED to live a dignified life, and that it is the GOVERNMENT’S JOB to deliver on that.”
I’ve heard a line like that before. It came from a famous book, and it was… pic.twitter.com/B9jKlJkVXH

The Democrat went on to expand on a dignified life — though he didn’t explain why it’s the government’s responsibility to ensure as much — while inadvertently exposing one of his early failings.
“When people say dignity, we’re talking about the things that allow you to take a breath,” the mayor said. “Housing, childcare, public transit. No one should be priced out of these things. These are non-negotiables, you need these to live.”
Of these three things, Mamdani campaigned on free buses, yet was unable to deliver once he took office. Eliminating MTA bus fares would have resulted in a revenue loss of roughly $1 billion annually, and there was no way to backfill the funding. After all, government has no source of income outside of taxes — which amounts to the confiscation of wages at the barrel of a gun.
Supporters of socialism don’t bother to question if Mamdani cannot deliver on free buses, how on earth is he going to produce free housing? As former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher famously said, “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.”
But as we learned with Barack Obama, delivering hard-left propaganda goes a long way with too many Americans when it’s pitched with a folksy smile and mannerisms.
Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
Government giving dignity…At least Mamdani doesn’t try to shy away from his insanity.

The government has no money. It has to be taken from working citizens to redistribute. Bread lines for all!

The government has nothing to give. They take things from people to give it to others.

Liberals entire philosophy: You want money. There are people with money over there. We will facilitate the transfer from them to you, if you vote us into power.

Socialism is selling the revolution with lies.
Communism is pushing the revolution through force.
Both install tyrannical governments that rack up impressive body counts and misery indexes.
Only Islam can compete.

If the government is responsible for meeting people’s needs, it also decides whose needs get met, whose don’t, and who gets more.
And who pays for all of it?
