Mamdani’s ‘summer fun’ message lands spectacularly badly after bloody NYC attack

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s post about extending summer fun was deemed tone deaf by social media users.

Scrolling the official New York City mayor’s X account, you wouldn’t know that a deadly attack took place in Times Square on Monday. Erin Piacenti, 32, was fatally stabbed and a 68-year-old man was wounded by a woman later identified as Pamela Cisneros. The suspect’s rampage was cut short by the NYPD when they were forced to shoot her after she refused repeated demands to drop her knives and was unaffected by two taser deployments.

Rather than release a statement about the shocking event, Mamdani has been posting stuff like this:

“Summer’s winding down, but the fun is still in session,” he wrote Tuesday afternoon.

“From backpack decorating to back-to-school celebrations, kick off the new school year with these free activities across the city,” he added in a follow-up post.

Other programs include an open tech lab that helps teens learn skills such as 3D printing and basic programming, back-to-school BINGO, and summer children’s book club.

X users had some thoughts on Mamdani’s apparent priorities:
