Mark Cuban: The Democratic Party should emulate ‘brilliant Trump clone’ Mamdani on social media

Billionaire leftist Mark Cuban is facing mockery for recommending that the Democratic Party follow New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s lead, particularly in regard to social media management.

“Mamdami here in New York, right … he’s Trump Jr., he’s a little clone of Trump,” Cuban told PBS’s Margaret Hoover in an interview. “You know, James Tallarico and Mamdani, you know what they have in common? They both grew up in an era where Donald Trump was the dominant politician that was dominated by social media.”

“And you look at Mamdani, brilliant at social media, right? I told the Democrats they should hire his team, pay him $10 million each to take them from him because that’ll get them further along than buying $50 million worth of ads on linear media,” he added.

Critics were stunned by the advice, with some arguing that the only reason Mamdani’s social media strategy worked to get him elected is that he kept offering people free things.

“In other words…wage a disingenuous social media campaign promising unattainable ‘free’ utopia, and then follow by leeching even more $$$ from everyone to attempt to pay for it all…when it all comes to pass, blame wealthy people…got it,” one critic tweeted.

“Cuban just endorsed over promising what you cannot deliver, immediately raising taxes 9.5% & running off any business that can leave……… Really?” a second critic tweeted. “I think we’ve seen the example in NYC that it’s already not working out well…..”

Another critic blasted Mamdani’s campaign for lying to the public and promising them free things he knew he couldn’t actually provide.

“Oh you mean the ones that lied to the people of New York,” the critic tweeted, responding directly to Cuban’s remarks. “Promised free stuff and then raise the fare for the buses, told them that property taxes would have to go up because the Governor was not going to waste billion on bailing him out, and then wanted five forms of ID for snow.”

The second critic’s point was that Mamdani has, since, like a typical Democrat, reneged on many of his promises.

Other critics mocked the very notion that Mamdani’s team should be running anything, including the Democrats’ social media presence.

“I’m convinced Mark Cuban is undercover agent for the Republican Party,” one critic tweeted. “Because every recommendation or instinct he has and gives to the Democrats is complete shit.😂😂😂”

“Because the most important thing is to have people that can spin and gaslight someone to elected position instead of a team that can actually help them perform the duties of the actual position,” another critic sarcastically tweeted.

Cuban’s current soft support for Mamdani marks a rapid 180 from what he was saying about the communist then-mayoral candidate last summer.

“We’re cutting rents, right? We’re changing grocery stores. None of that shit has a chance. Doesn’t matter,” Cuban said last summer on “Pod Save America,” referencing the then-candidate’s campaign positions, as reported by Business Insider.

“This guy is walking in, telling me he’s going to walk on water. He’s going to make me more money, he’s going to save me money, he’s going to make my life better,” he added.

Asked by Business Insider why he had so many doubts about Mamdani’s policies, Cuban pointed to the then-candidate’s lack of an actual plan.

“Until we see actual process and plans to actually implement a promise, I look at his, and all campaign promises, as nothing more than promises,” he said. “We are going to do X, and someone else will pay for it. That seems to be the path of least resistance to getting votes for any office.”
