Matt Walsh rips toothless grandstanding by GOP senators at Fauci hearing

Conservative pundit Matt Walsh suggested that Republican lawmakers were engaging in toothless grandstanding during Wednesday’s grilling of Dr. Anthony S. Fauci at a Senate committee hearing.

The diminutive former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) boss whose policy advice was instrumental in the trampling of civil liberties during the COVID lockdowns may have invoked the Fifth Amendment, but that didn’t prevent some Republican senators from using Wednesday’s hearing to build their own brands and chase social media clout.

The Daily Wire commentator wasn’t impressed by the aggressive peppering of Fauci by the GOP senators, mockingly expressing skepticism that anything is going to come from the sound and fury.

“Wow did you hear what those Republican congressmen said to that bad guy in the hearing? Lol man they really ripped him apart. It was so awesome. What’s that? Oh no the bad guy won’t be arrested or charged with any crime or suffer any consequences of any kind at all. No, there will be no follow up on the hearing, no relevant legislation passed in response to it, no changes of any kind made at all ever,” he wrote in a post to X.

“But did you see that viral clip of that one senator? He even used a cuss word! A real cuss word! He’s so tough and brave. I’m so impressed. Aren’t you?” Walsh sarcastically asked.

Walsh was referring to Sen. Bennie Moreno (R-Ohio), who slipped into Democrat mode by dropping an f-bomb during his performative questioning of the retired government official.

“Here I am sitting in front of you six years later, saying, who the f**k do you think you were for doing that?” Moreno said, referring to an incident where a woman was arrested for refusing to wear a face diaper at a middle school football game.

Agreeing with Walsh’s take on the spectacle was OutKick’s Tomi Lahren. “Bingo,” she wrote in response.

Others also chimed in.

Despite the often withering questioning by Republicans, Fauci – who received a preventive pardon from former President Joe Biden – calmly took the Fifth more than a hundred times during the Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing.
