Mayor Mamdani creates LGBTQIA office, names dude in dress as head

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani proudly announced the creation of a brand new Office of LGBTQIA+ affairs and picked a man who thinks he’s a woman to head it up.

The Ugandan-born Democrat is quickly moving to put his stamp on the Big Apple since taking control and proceeded to appeal to a demographic that reliably votes for his party early on in his first term.

On Friday, Hizzoner announced he had signed an executive order to create the Office of LGBTQIA+ Affairs and that Taylor Brown would be its first director, making history as the first openly transgender person to lead a Gotham office or agency.

“It is personal to her. Taylor will be the first out trans woman to lead a city office in New York City history,” Mamdani said.

“Today, I signed an executive order establishing the first-ever Mayor’s Office of LGBTQIA+ Affairs and appointing the brilliant Taylor Brown as Director,” he said in a statement posted to X. “Queer New Yorkers deserve to be not just protected, but celebrated in this city. Together, we will fight for their right to live a life of dignity, safety, and unabashed pride.”

Brown, an attorney in the Civil Rights Bureau for the New York State Attorney General, joined a beaming Mamdani for a news conference at the Brooklyn Community Pride Center.

“New York has given me everything — life-saving health care, education, a home, a career, my chosen family, and a life of purpose. I am so proud to serve this city as the inaugural Director of the Mayor’s Office for LGBTQIA+ Affairs,” the newly crowned director said in a statement.

“I will work every day to ensure that the doors of New York City remain open to all and to continue New York City’s legacy as a beacon of opportunity and hope for those who have been ignored, discriminated against, and intentionally excluded,” he added.

X users weighed in with their feedback on Mamdani’s historic announcement.

The listed initiatives include the assistance of agencies to develop liaisons to the LGBTQIA+ community, advancing measures to prevent discrimination and  “developing legal resources to ensure the City’s sanctuary protections for LGBTQIA+ individuals are upheld.”

The office will also provide support for “LGBTQIA+ people and their families fleeing anti-LGBTQIA+ oppression,” although it did not make clear what the alleged “oppression” could include.
