Meghan McCain calls on GOP challengers other than DeSantis to drop out – ‘That leaves two: Don and Ron’

Outspoken “Never-Trumper” Meghan McCain claims the reason presidential hopeful Gov. Ron DeSantis is being smeared by “relentless forces” is because “they fear him.”

New polling on the Republican primary race puts former President Donald Trump ahead of DeSantis, his closest rival, by up to 50 percentage points.

“Let’s be clear about what DeSantis is up against,” McCain wrote in an op-ed for DailyMail.com. “He’s splitting the ‘anyone but Trump vote’ with seven other GOP candidates. Of course, he’s struggling.”

In a Hail Mary plea to the remaining seven candidates, she begged that they throw in the towel and bow out of the race.

McCain cited New Hampshire’s Republican Governor Chris Sununu, who declared this week, “If seven of those candidates have the discipline to get out, Trump loses.”

“Make it a one-on-one race, Trump loses,” Sununu stated. “There’s no question about it.”

“So here we go: a plea to the GOP field,” McCain proposed. “If you’re not consistently polling in the double-digits nationally then drop out!”

“That leaves two: Don and Ron,” she explained. “Everyone else is just filling a debate stage podium.”

And McCain would also really appreciate it if everyone would please stop saying mean things about her choice for president.

The former co-host of “The View” argued:

There isn’t a person in the 2024 race that has been on the receiving end of as much unrelenting negativity as the Florida governor.

Notice how the forces arrayed against him – on the left and the right – are united around a single narrative that a candidate’s personality matters more than actual accomplishments.

Trump’s campaign sends out daily emails declaring an impending ‘KISS OF DEATH COUNTDOWN’ for the DeSantis campaign. They once reportedly hired a plane to fly over the Iowa State Fair with a banner that read, ‘be likable Ron.’

McCain went on to point her finger at the “left-wing media.”

“The left-wing media is more than happy to play this up since they want Trump to win the nomination,” she reasoned. “They assume he’ll be defeated by Biden in 2024, so they’re happy to clear a path for him just as they did in 2016.”

She then defended DeSantis’s lack of “personality,” asking “is personality such an important quality?”

“Some of America’s greatest Presidents have been introverts,” she insisted. “From John Adams to Abraham Lincoln to Dwight D. Eisenhower, it’s often the diligent leader, who can succeed in office where the showman makes big promises but fails to deliver.”

She called out DeSantis’s other main competitor, biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, whose promise to restore America’s national identity has resonated with many voters.

As BizPac Review reported, Ramaswamy trails DeSantis among GOP primary voters by just two points, 33% to 31%, for second choice, should Trump find himself off the ballot.

“Too many voters want someone like Vivek Ramaswamy, who will rap on stage and give snappy soundbites,” McCain wrote. “That’s easy when he has no political record to defend.”

“The country has lived through Barack Obama’s shallow charisma, Trump’s erratic antics, and now Biden’s doddering, senile invocations of the soul of America,” she stated. “What we need now is a return to seriousness.”

She listed DeSantis’s undeniable accomplishments in Florida and noted, “Now, thanks to a torrent of criticism this erstwhile Republican champion has been turned into some kind of mini-Jeb Bush.”

The reason for the attacks on DeSantis is simple, she asserted: “Whenever the Trumpian-right or the left goes after DeSantis on policy grounds, they fall on their faces.”

“At the end of the day, I pray my party will come to its senses,” McCain concluded. “Despite the mudslinging, DeSantis’ resume remains. He deserves a fair, final assessment from voters who are smart enough to see through the smears pushed by Trump, his allies, and the left-wing media.

“It’s long past time for the Republican Party to get behind Ron,” she cautioned, “before it’s too really late.”

McCain, considered by many conservatives to be a “Republican In Name Only,” should probably realize that, if she truly hopes to help DeSantis, she may want to just keep quiet.

“Meghan McCain can shut her trap!! She voted for Biden!!” exclaimed one user on X. “She’s the reason we are in this mess. And her traitor father tore the party apart. John McCain was a terrible presidential candidate who didn’t fight for the win!! Weak loser!!”
