Megyn Kelly isn’t buying Harry and Meghan’s wild tale of ‘near catastrophic’ NYC car chase

Conservative commentator Megyn Kelly wasn’t sold on the wild tale that Prince Harry and spouse Meghan Markle were caught up in a “near catastrophic” car chase through the streets of New York City when they were allegedly pursued by paparazzi in an incident that may not add up as portrayed by the attention-seeking celebrity couple.

Described in harrowing terms by a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who said that after Markle received the Ms. Foundation Women of Vision Award in a Tuesday night ceremony at the Ziegfeld Ballroom, the pair along with Meghan’s mother was forced to flee from a “relentless pursuit, lasting over 2 hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and 2 NYPD officers.”

According to the spokesperson, the alleged chase, which conjured memories of Prince Harry’s mother Princess Diana who lost her life in a 1997 auto accident inside of Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris when the car that was riding in was chased by French paparazzi, was a “near catastrophic” event, a claim that the SiriusXM host, who has lived in New York City, suggested might have been more than slightly exaggerated, calling the account “not possible” in a Wednesday tweet.

“I lived in Manhattan for 17 yrs & it is not possible to have a 2hr “car chase” there. Too many street lights/stop signs, too much foot/car traffic & hundreds of places you could safely pull over to protect yourself,” Kelly wrote on Twitter.

In a second tweet, Kelly suggested that the thin-skinned duchess has invited any problems with overly aggressive members of the press upon herself.

“Also if they really want to avoid the paparazzi perhaps the Duchess should stop using them so obviously when she wants to see herself in the paper. The relationship can get complicated,” she said.

Kelly, a frequent critic of the estranged royal couple further commented on their allegedly harrowing ordeal on Wednesday’s edition of “The Megyn Kelly Show,” slamming the description of the supposed chase as “bulls**” and saying that it “stinks to high heaven” during a segment where she excoriated the entitled duo.

“Near-catastrophic. What does that mean?” Kelly asked. “I mean, near-catastrophic is what we all have. Every time we look down to change the radio while we’re driving our cars or engage in the stupidity of checking a text on our phones while we’re driving, that’s near-catastrophic. It is. Anything could happen with anybody on the road around your car,” she noted that there was no car accident, just the following them, dismissing it as just another “night in New York. Ask any person of interest or who’s a public person. It’s happened to me. I’ve seen it happen to others.”

“Well, sorry, you two. But you’re in America now and in America, the press has the right to photograph you when you are in a public place or on the streets or leaving a place like the Ziegfeld Theater. That’s the way it works here. And it’s not pleasant. I’ve been followed as well, but it’s part of life in this country where we still have freedom of the press. You don’t like it? Go back home for the love of God, please go back home. Harry, take your wife with you. I don’t know how we got saddled with you to begin with,” Kelly added.

Not surprisingly, the tale of the terrifying pursuit of Harry and Meghan began to unravel upon scrutiny with the NYPD’s account not meshing with the couple’s version of events, something that Kelly seized upon later in the day.

“There is no way of having a two-hour car chase in New York City in Manhattan. There just isn’t. There are too many stop signs. There are too many red lights, there is too much foot traffic, there is too much actual traffic and there’s just — it’s impossible to be in a car chase in this borough for two hours. So exactly how did that happen? It would’ve happened out of choice. The couple must have been willing participants to some extent,” Kelly said. “Because there are hundreds of places to pull over and get to safety, which is what they claim they wanted, right?”
