After a series of allegations against the first lady involving Jeffrey Epstein that The Daily Beast went on to retract, author Michael Wolff played the victim, alleging a “calculated campaign to destroy his reputation and livelihood.”
While President Donald Trump’s return to the White House managed to put a stop to some of the lawfare against him and his family, it only marked a change in approach. Having previously been called out for a “total FAKE JOB” alleging an inside look at the president’s 2024 campaign, demands that Wolff cease allegedly defamatory statements connecting Melania Trump with the late sex offender prompted a lawsuit, resulting in him suing her instead.
As reported by TMZ after obtaining court documents, Wolff’s attorneys allege that the first lady “‘deliberately and maliciously’ interfered with his publishing contract and defamed him in public statements tied to his forthcoming book, ‘The Art of Her Deal: The Untold Story of Melania Trump (Redux),'” as part of a “calculated campaign to destroy his reputation and livelihood.”
Turning to New York’s anti-SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation) laws, the author asserts he received a “threat letter” on October 15 about the possibility of a $1 billion lawsuit if he refused to stop making allegedly defamatory statements such as, “First Lady Melania could be the missing link in President Trump’s ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.”
Wolff claimed the first family “have made a practice of threatening those who speak against them with costly SLAPP actions in order to silence their speech, to intimidate their critics generally and to extract unjustified payments and North Korean-style confessions and apologies.”
Earlier in the year, The Daily Beast retracted an article claiming that Jeffrey Epstein had been linked to the introduction of then-Melania Knavs to her future husband after Wolff claimed she “was very involved in this Epstein relationship. There is this model thing, and she’s introduced by a model agent, both of whom Trump and Epstein are involved with. She’s introduced to Trump that way, Epstein knows her well.”
The outlet made note of the challenge from Trump’s attorney about the “headline and framing of the article,” and after review took the article down and apologized “for any confusion or misunderstanding.”

Previously, it was reported that the first lady had threatened to sue Hunter Biden for $1 billion “in damages” for his own alleged “false, defamatory, disparaging, and inflammatory statements,” reiterating the claims made by Wolff. Biden responded by stating an apology was “not going to happen.”
“F*ck that,” the former first son said, accusing the Trumps of being “bullies.”
“And they think that a billion dollars is going to scare me … I have this to say to them,” Biden went on, “if they want to sit down for a deposition and clarify the nature of the relationship between Jeffrey Epstein, if the president and the first lady want to do that, and all of the known associates around them at the time of whatever time that they met — I’m more than happy to provide them the platform to be able to do it.”
