Already absent from the campaign trail, a new report raised questions as to where Alaska’s controversial Senate candidate, last seen on a flight, may have gone.
This week, the findings of an investigation by The New York Times about ballot shenanigans marked only the latest example of Democrats allegedly doing precisely what they accuse Republicans of: meddling with elections.
Now, as federal and state probes look into the case of the double Dan Sullivans on the ballot and whether or not Alaska Rep. Mary Peltola and the Democrats were behind the effort at deception, CBS News’ team on the ground reported Dan J. Sullivan’s whereabouts remain unknown along with other campaign peculiarities.
Following reports tying the congresswoman’s Senate campaign to the recruitment of Sullivan to run as a means to confuse voters supporting incumbent Alaska Sen. Dan S. Sullivan (R), CBS News traveled to Dan J. Sullivan’s hometown of Petersburg, Alaska where the candidate could not be located.
“One resident and former student of Sullivan’s said she saw Sullivan on a flight to Anchorage on Monday — two days before The New York Times first reported that he was recruited by operatives linked to Democrat Mary Peltola’s campaign,” detailed the outlet. “The source added she did not know where Sullivan was headed, but another friend said he and his wife are known among friends as ‘world travelers.'”
Daniel J. Sullivan, the independent candidate running for Senate in Alaska whose name is almost identical to the Republican senator running for reelection, left his hometown of Petersburg earlier this week, multiple sources confirmed to CBS News.

“Sullivan’s current whereabouts after leaving his hometown are not clear,” furthered CBS News as residents of Petersburg contend the candidate did not campaign there in the months leading up to the election. Likewise, the news crew could not find signs of active campaigning, “including outside his own home.”
As was previously reported, in addition to outgoing Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy (R) ordering an investigation into Peltola and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), the Department of Justice issued at least three dozen subpoenas on Thursday as it probed the same.
At the same time, a lawsuit filed by the DOJ that aims to block the certification of the election if Sen. Sullivan were shown to lose the race because of the second Dan Sullivan on the ranked-choice ballot was amended to describe the activity prompting the suit as a “conspiracy to undermine the integrity of the electoral process.”
For his part, President Donald Trump considered the matter to be an open and shut case as he posted to Truth Social Wednesday, “It has just been determined that the Democrats in Alaska illegally searched for, and recruited, a man named Dan Sullivan to run against our distinguished Republican Senator, Dan Sullivan, in order to defraud, confuse, and obfuscate the Election, thereby taking votes away from the REAL Senator, Dan Sullivan.”
Trump went on to state, “Mary Peltola should suffer the Legal and Political consequences for what she has done, A FRAUD ON THE AMERICAN PUBLIC, and Dan Sullivan should be allowed to run without either Mary Peltola or FAKE Dan Sullivan on the Ballot.”
What’s more, the president told reporters how he believed “Mary Peltola should resign from the race” and “should be prosecuted criminally for what she did.”
